Epic is not just ugly, its balcony rooms also suck.  The bathroom wash basin is in the main cabin and the balcony is extremely narrow.

Well like it or dislike it, marketing is clearly the motive.  Definitely want everyone to know what ship it is!  Interesting that it is the only RCCL ship to date with that style of naming.

Marketing changes.  What better time to make those changes than when the ship is still being built?  With the lettering going so close to the water line, they might prefer to update the name painting in drydock.

 

Also, I thought I'd seen on some where the ship name lettering was actually raised, like another layer of steel which was then painted.  On those ships it would be a little more difficult to change the design.
