It's a virus, you aren't going to stop it. You can only hope to slow it down until people get some kind of immunity (natural, vaccine or both). Not everyone thinks shutting the country down is common sense.

Not everyone thinks loading down hospitals beyond capacity is common sense.

In Florida starting today 18+ year olds are eligible to get vaccinated.

my daughter 24 signed in last night and got her fist shot this morning, next shot scheduled 21 day later.

vaccines , developed in a year and in people arms .. this is exciting news and to me it means this virus and all it’s death for the older , sicker and overweight folk will come to a end .

Actually, 16 and older are now eligible for the Pfizer.

Common sense would be to social distance, wear a mask, wash your hands, etc. Not shut down the economy.

The don't tread on me crowd refused to do all of the things you listed which is what filled up the hospitals.  We wouldn't have had to shut down things for so long if they had just done the things in your list, but that would supposedly take away their freedom.

You keep blaming "the don't tread on me" crowd. I might agree at the beginning (first month or so) people were reluctant to do those things but now I don't see it at all. Exactly what hospitals are full of Covid patients? You just like to blame one group of people.

We have been out to eat (weekly), to casinos, shopping and everyone (with very few exceptions) was keeping distance, wearing masks, etc. We went to Foxwoods casino in Connecticut a couple weekends ago and it was a zoo over the weekend. But people were all wearing masks, using hand sanitizer, etc. Didn't feel unsafe at all.

You are lucky to live in a place where everyone is complying with the protocols.  I can see how you would not have a realistic perspective of what is going on because you haven't had first hand experience with the don't tread on me crowd during the pandemic.  Consider yourself lucky.

And yet our weekly average has done nothing but go up over the past 2 weeks.

44% of new cases are in 5 states right now.  New York, Michigan, Florida, New Jersey, and Michigan.

it only takes one. and one can spread it to many. It isn't like you can see it spreading.

Well, you can go hide in your bubble and not come in contact with anyone. The rest of us will take proper precautions and live life.

If you are actually taking the proper precautions then I don't think anyone is talking to you.  Many of us that have had strong opinions about the pandemic know full and well that everyone had to handle it differently.  The only problem I have had is with the people that have not only treated it as if it was no problem at all.  Many took it a step further like you are doing in this post and tried to make fun of people "living in a bubble" because they are handling it differently.

It's worth noting that Connecticut has the 9th worse cases per capita currently.  New England as a whole is doing VERY poorly.  Maine is doing better than the rest of New England but it's still 18th worst in cases per capita and 6th worst in infection rate.

RI 4th worst, MA 8th, CT 9th, NH 10th, VT 11th

The person I quoted had quoted me so I guess they were talking to me. And I am not making fun of anyone. If some people want to "live in a bubble" then have at it. It's when you think everyone else should too that I have a problem.

About half of Maine's cases have been two counties in southern Maine and the majority of the new cases are younger people (20's and 30's).

Point fingers at other people all you want but people in their 20's and 30's go to Foxwoods too...

Was stating a fact, not pointing fingers. Your point?

My point is your above quote about masks and sanitizer.   Maybe you didn't "feel unsafe" but by any objective metric, you were in the "most unsafe" region of the country.

Just because those 20 and 30 year olds were wearing masks at Foxwoods, doesn't mean the disease wasn't spreading.  By any objective metric, they were spreading it MORE there than the "neanderthals" in Texas.

The 20 and 30 year old's had to do with the current spike of cases in Maine and had nothing to do with Foxwoods in particular, although there were plenty of them there. As well as kids. Always amazing how many people take their kids there.

I'm sure it was spread to some degree (just as any indoor place with a thousand plus people) and we were there when CT's 7 day average of new cases was around 800. Still never felt unsafe.

Still never felt unsafe.

And that is the crux of the matter amongst a large portion of people:

You might have felt unsafe, but were truly in a higher risk scenario.

Others might feel very unsafe, no matter what precautions they take, yet are in fact in a very low risk scenario.

How safe you feel doesn't really alter the actuality of risk.

We don't agree on much, but definitely agree with you on this.

Maybe I needed to be more specific with "MY" scenario and the risks involved.

We were both vaccinated.

We both wear masks (as did everyone else there).

We both wash our hands and use hand sanitizer/wipes.

We social distance.

We specifically went when cases were low.

So, although we may have been in a higher risk scenario as compared to staying home the risk to us was minimal. Our jobs place us more at risk than going to a Casino.

*not sure why that double quoted.
