I visited Osaka during my Volendam cruise in March 2017.  Hopefully I will be there again this coming March on a 6 week B2B2B on the Noordam.  It will be there on March 30-31 and again on April 13.

During my visit in 2017 I did not stay in Osaka, but instead took a tour that went to Naha.  I found the pictures but, quite frankly, had no idea what was what!  So I watched the slideshow/video I made [with captions] to figure it out.   I think I have this right.....I hope.

I was travelling with a friend who likes to do HAL shore excursions and it was a very good one.  In Naha we visited three main sites.  First to the Horyuji Temple, the Todaiji Temple, and the main attraction was the Kasuga Taisha Shrine which is sometimes called the deer park.

Good morning, and Happy Victoria Day, all! I love escargot, but never did get a tiara when I retired. I did get a very pretty moonstone necklace, so I guess my tiara just slipped down a little.I think maybe the quote was truer two years ago than it is today. Shrimp scampi sounds wonderful, but not on our menu tonight.
Today is socked in with rain, which makes it easier to be staying home with no Victoria Day festivities to join in. This is the second year in a row it’s been a quiet weekend instead of a busy one. But tomorrow is the last day of regional lockdown, which is something to celebrate. The rain is good for the plants, and the big leaf maples. I’ve been watching the Saskatoon forecast. On Friday, DD in Colonsay sent me a picture of her yard covered in snow. Yesterday she sent a picture of the same yard with the grass freshly cut and looking like summer. Now the heavy rainfall warning! @ger_77Yikes! Stay safe and dry, Gerry!

For those not from the west coast, I’ll share a picture of a maple leaf. It was too big to use printing DD’s birthday shawl. I’ll share a pic of that too, although it’s still a work in progress.

A big leaf maple living up to the name.

DD’s peace silk shawl with prints, but needing an after dip for background colour. I don’t usually share a work in progress. This is a story of growing up in the woods of Salt Spring Island. From the ground up are buttercups and ferns, then the lower trees of hawthorn, Garry oak, her friends chestnut tree and our walnut tree, the big leaf maples, and finally the towing fir trees. It’s too hot in Taiwan for her to wear it much, so she plans to use it spread out on her bed. That gave me the idea of making it a story shawl that changes along the length rather than a repeating or symmetrical pattern.

And of course, Happy Monday, even if it’s not spent on a BHB- yet!

The scarf is beautifully done, and it will be even nicer when it's complete.  What a lovely gift for your DD.  Thank you for sharing with us.

Good morning all!

In a rush this morning, I'm running late to meet my friend for lunch up north, will check in again later today!

We had a crazy day yesterday, our 8-year-old grandson broke his arm in 2 places when we were all at a family gathering. 😞  Broke my heart to see him hurting so much. 😞   His Dad is a PA so got him fixed up and he and DD whisked him off to the local hospital where they spent the next 5 or 6 hours.  We kept the other grandson with us as they dealt with all that.  Not the way we wanted to spend our first large family gathering!

Oh no!  I'm so sorry to hear about your DGS's accident.  I hope now that most of the painful setting and casting part is over with that he has a speedy recovery.  I know how bad I felt when we heard of our DGS's injury to his collarbone playing soccer.

Happy Victoria Day!

I had hoped to spend the day in the garden pulling weeds and planting marigolds, foxglove, coneflowers, daylilies, etc.  Unfortunately the rain has put a hold on that plan.

Below are samples of the poppies that are currently gracing the front garden.

May be an image of flower and nature

Val, I have a big head & a great deal of hair - I am fairly certain that I could wear one of your gorgeous p poppies as a hat!

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Good days. I'll straighten my tiara (retirement gift) and celebrate Victoria Day with our northern neighbors. I've never had escargot.

I like the quote.

Nice meal and wine. Not sure about the drink.

I haven't been to today's port. Enjoying pictures from those who were there.

It has been pouring rain here, with thunder at times. There has been a bit of flooding and people needing to be rescued from cars.

I got the script for my bloodwork and braved the rain to go get it done. I'm not sure how long results will take. I suppose if you don't have antibodies there's still the cellular immunity (B cells).

@Horizon chaser 1957 The shawl is looking great.

@Cruising-along Sorry to hear about your grandson's injury and wishing him a speedy recovery.

Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celebration list.

Stay safe everyone!

Forgot to mention - but in connection with Victoria Day.... my Great-Grandfather moved from Norfolk to Thamesville and other locations in Canada and then on to Oregon. My Aunt told me that until near the end of his life,  he always went to Canada to celebrate the Queen's birthday. That, despite having been "asked" to leave England around 1832 .... something about a fight with the man to whom he was apprenticed.

I just saw a news story on Osaka so this is a very timely article.  It was from Reuters.  It was about Covid cases in that city.  It said:

Hospitals in Japan's second largest city of Osaka are buckling under a huge wave of new coronavirus infections, running out of beds and ventilators as exhausted doctors warn of a "system collapse", and advise against holding the Olympics this summer.

Very concerning.

I found a link to the actual Reuters story for you.

Ooops!  My mistake.  I do know the difference as we were supposed to go to Okinawa on the same cruise.  But due to extreme fog when leaving Shanghai we were late and had to miss it.  Hopefully I will get to Naha, Okinawa, next year on Apr 3.

That’s really bad news. Around here, so many act like covid is over. It’s not. At the moment we’re very fortunate to have a low case count, and to be able to get back to some normalcy. But it’s not over.

@bennybear What is the “coin”?

@atexsix Thanks for the update on NA. I’m hoping she’ll be hanging around here as tomorrow I have to go to Long Beach again, (a sewing machine accessory came in) and I’d love to go gawk. Maybe I’ll bring my Dad for the ride and take him over to San Pedro so he can see the container operation he enjoys.

Yes. I agree they should hold off on Olympics, lots of logistics issues for athletes with continued closed borders, plus there's been too big a rush to return to sports everywhere.

So sorry to hear about your grandson.  I know just how you feel.  Our granddaughter when she was 5 broke her leg sledding on Christmas.  A few days later her cousins from Colorado visited and that made her even more upset as she couldn't get up to even play with them.  She was still in a temporary cast until the swelling went down.  But thank goodness there was not permanent damage.  It seems like the young heal so much faster!!

Happy Victoria Day to all our Canadian neighbors.

Always enjoy all the pictures everyone posts.  Can't be too many for me.  Enjoyed our time in Osaka and Kyoto when we were on a land trip.

Appreciate all the posts and information from everyone.  A great read on a wet day here.  But we need the rain.

Prayers for the care list and cheers for the all who are celebrating.

Happy  Monday and wishes for a great week for everyone.

That scarf is very pretty.  Can’t wait to see the finished product.  Your DD will love it.

I’ve never seen a maple leaf that big.  If you weren’t telling a story with the scart, it would have made a great centerpiece for the scarf.

Sorry about your DGS breaking his arm and in two places.  It took s lucky his dad knew how to stablize the arm until they could get to the hospital.

YIKES!  I have been concerned that something like this could happen, especially after new cases increased in Tokyo a few weeks ago.  I agree tue Olympics should be cancelled as it is too big a risk for the athletes.  I feel sorry for the athletes who have worked so hard to reach the Olympics, but it is not worth it to risk people’s health and lives.
