Getting to Cape Liberty from EWR

Recommended Posts

We used a cab from EWR.  It worked out great.  We flew in the day of departure.  The plane was delayed and we were concerned about getting to the ship.  The taxi 🚖 driver assured we would get there on time. When we got on the main highway traffic got so bad it was stopping .  All of a sudden he took off down the shoulder of the road.  When he did it several other cars followed. He got us there on time!  It made for a memorable occasion!

We also used Uber.  But if you want to use Royal's transfers, this is what they have on the website:

You can pre-purchase ground transportation and airport transfers to take you from your arrival airport to the ship on the day of your sailing, and from the pier to your departure airport on debarkation day. We recommend purchasing your transfer at least two weeks prior to sailing — just consult with your travel agent or call our Reservations department at 1-800-327-6700

I think the cost is $27.95 per person, your flight has to arrive by 12pm on the day of the cruise.

If you have more than 1 person, UBER or Lyft is the best choice. Prices as of last year: Royal bus at $28 per person while the car service was $22 to $28 per trip depending on peak time.

Also, EWR has 3 terminals and there is only one Royal representative who moves between the terminals. One time I spent 20 minutes looking for her. Then she waits for more people to arrive before calling the bus. So you could be possibly waiting at the airport for an hour before boarding the Royal bus.

Uber or car service...uber is cheaper but car service you can arrange well ahead of time--both cheaper and more convenient than Royal...as said above, waiting for the bus to fill is painful. That said, in the post covid, timed arrivals it will be interesting to see how Royal arranges the timing because just because we are at the same location for pickup, it doesnt mean we have the same timed arrival for checkin.

We use a car service. We stay in Newark at the Doubletree at the train station in Newark.  We get the bellman to get us a car and we book Dial 7 to take us from CL into NYC to stay for a bit and take the train back from there.   We have used Dial 7 from Newark to CL also.  There's a thread on the ports of call/homeports pages all about CL/Newark and lots of discussion on transportation.  I'll go grab it and link it here.

Okay, go check these threads.  https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/317-east-coast-departures/
