Please carefully review the information below regarding new, temporary testing requirements:

  • Effective with cruises departing on Saturday, August 14, 2021, we will require ALL fully vaccinated guests to produce a negative viral COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) taken within 3 days of their embarkation on all Carnival Cruise Line sailings. Guests who are unvaccinated will continue to follow the requirements already communicated (and as detailed below).
  • Fully vaccinated guests will be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test along with proof of full vaccination upon arrival in the terminal and can then proceed on board. Please note that testing in the terminal will not be available for vaccinated guests so it’s critical that you have your negative test results with you upon your arrival.  We will not be able to accommodate guests without proof of a negative test.  Please check our Have Fun. Be Safe.  protocols at Carnival.com for further details on testing requirements.
  • Guests who are not fully vaccinated are still required to show the negative results of a PCR test taken between 72 and 24 hours prior to the sailing date, and will be tested again in the terminal prior to boarding the ship and again within 24 hours of debarkation (for itineraries five days or longer).  Unvaccinated guests approved for an exemption will continue to be charged US$150, per person, for testing, reporting and health safety screenings, and also must provide proof of travel insurance if departing from the states of Florida or Texas.
  • Children under two are exempt from testing requirements.

In addition to testing requirements, we are also making adjustments to our onboard mask policy effective with cruises beginning this Saturday, August 7, 2021, as follows:
  • First, we strongly encourage all guests to wear face masks when indoors, particularly guests who are unvaccinated including children under the age of 12 who should wear masks in public areas, except when eating or drinking.
  • All guests age 2 and older will be required to wear face masks in elevators and in designated indoor entertainment areas, all retail shops, and in the casino, except when eating or drinking.
  • Guests will be required to wear face masks prior to being seated in our main dining rooms and in the Lido Buffet area and occasionally in other designated areas where larger number of guests may congregate.
  • As a reminder, masks are required during embark and debark in the terminal, and masks should also be worn during the debarkation process on board.
These new requirements are being implemented to protect our guests and crew while on board.  Several destinations have implemented their own requirements and all guests will be required to follow the protocols in each destination we visit. As stated above, we expect these requirements will be temporary and we appreciate your cooperation and look forward to welcoming you aboard.

An honest question: have the protocols changed today?

I don't know - I don't pay much attention until closer to cruising since they do change.

I do see masks are strongly encouraged indoors (vs mandatory everywhere) and only mandatory in some locations, although everything is subject to change including while you are on a cruise.

You may have to travel into Austin. I'm quite sure they have several in Austin that you could get done at.

Yeah Austin is not an option would rather cancel than go into the den of liberalism, and besides I think the wife has a jury trial that day and won't cancel or postpone something that important .

I'd be curious to know if people receiving or not receiving the email has anything to do with booking through a TA. I booked on-line myself at Carnival's site and received two identical emails about 3 hours apart on the day this new protocol was announced.

Booked directly with Carnival and have not received any email advising of this new requirement from either Carnival or our Carnival PVP.  As others have noted, I get all of their other email so they have my correct information.

I booked on Carnival's site and no email. Seems totally random. I also get the Carnival spam about my cruise, just not the real important stuff.

I booked through the site. No email.

I wonder...they are saying it is required starting on the 14th. But what if, so as not to cause max cancellations, they aren't "over alerting" those on the early sailings. That is why we havent got the email. I bet they wont be turning away people if they dont have it when we show for Horizon the 15th.

Booked with a carnival PVP and I haven't received anything.  I know they have the correct information since I have confirmation emails, and updates for when I purchased excursions.  I'm also getting several offers weekly.   I  didn't receive the platinum/diamond email and my hubby didn't get the gold email.  Not sure what is up.  If it wasn't for this board I would have no clue that I need to have a covid test prior to the cruise and we cruise in 15 days.

I booked online myself for 3 cruises in the next 6 months. The first is on 8/24. No word from Carnival to my email about testing/masks. I imagine quite a mess at embarkation.

Is anyone else on the Horizon August 14th and haven't been notified of the new testing protocols? I just completed our final registration and printed our documents and nowhere did it say anything about having to get the Covid test prior to boarding. It doesn't even pop up when I log into Carnival. I only know because my husband saw an article about it and I read these boards. They never sent me an email about it. I went and checked my inbox, trash and spam folders and there is nothing. I had to search the site to find it. I am a little upset about the fact they don't even warn you on the documents, yet expect us to have it or we can be turned away. I know I shouldn't be so salty. It's just we have been through quite a lot lately (not covid related) and really need this trip.

You answered your own question - look in the mirror and get over it.

Just cruised and loved it!

We both got itinerary change emails for both fall cruises in the last two weeks and restart emails prior to that. Got a shore ex cancellation email due to that change.  My husband got a payment reminder but not me and I handle our bookings. Neither of us got the testing email. So no idea what’s up. No offers either.

I have read the news online, it’s really not hard to keep up to date.  Cruise Critic is just one source after all. I have seen the news on NPR, Travel Magazine News, general AOL News.  It isn’t hard to get news these days/years. 🙂😷

What if someone doesn't frequent CC or other social media for Carnival and didn't get an email? Let's say they show up like normal to the port without the test in hand.  What happens then?  Too bad for you, type of thing?

Please, please read the news folks . Spells it out quite clearly. 🤓🤓

I haven’t received any emails regarding the new protocols. Pretty stressful since we are getting close to sail date! Calling around and places can’t confirm what test we need or that results will arrive timely.

If you want the Antigen test with the 1 hour results, CVS Minute Clinic is your best bet.  If you want the PCR test with the better results, Quest Diagnostics is saying 24 hour results.  Either way, your insurance will pay for it.  If your cruise embarks on a Saturday, you can get tested anytime starting Wednesday morning.

I booked through a TA and received the email from Carnival twice this week and my wife did as well.  Didn't get a VM or email from my TA though....
