Booking a B2B (extending your cruise) while onboard. Perks?

If you are on a cruise and decide to add to the cruise (B2B) what perks should you ask for,  or expect? I’ve seen postings on getting SBC for existing and next cruise as well as double repeat guest discounts.

What do you do on the disembarkation day?  Can  you stay on board? Will Viking move your luggage to the other cabin (if you have to change cabins)? Can you leave the ship before re-embarking? Can you book specialty restaurants for the following cruise while on the first cruise? What has been your experience?

Wow Jim, lots of questions.

We have completed lots of B2B, but not with Viking. In general, we find the process varies depending on the requirement of the local authorities, with respect to clearing the ship.

Normally, we will receive the new cruise cards in the cabin the night before, with a letter explaining the process. In many TAR ports they have no shore-ex, although, if they have a number of B2B pax they may schedule a couple of tours. The easiest process we experienced was going to the gangway, scanning the old card and immediatley scanning the new card, without getting off the ship. Have also experienced where we must scan off the ship and head ashore, before returning to the ship and scanning on with the new card. The worst experience was having to head ashore and remain ashore until the last person was off (zero count), then we could return and scan on with the new card.

Moving cabins - generally the cabin stewards/accom supervisors provide assistance, if we remain aboard, or if going ashore, we pack everything and they moved it.

Port day - we have done both, remaining aboard and also taking a shore-ex/private trip. Need to review the clearance guidelines before finalising the plan, if taking a private trip.

When we booked B2B's with Viking they were combined into a single booking number, so our shore-ex booking window opened based on the first cruise for all of them. Both these B2B's were cancelled or changed to the current WC.

When we booked a B2B2B cruise for this Oct, other than the credit that we received as a past customer we got $200 each in OBC.  This was under a single booking number.

When another of the cruises we had scheduled was canceled, we added onto this cruise for a 4th leg (so we are sailing from Athens to Santiago, Chile).  We were not able to get our same room for the third leg, but have to move 2 doors down.  Viking booked this under a new booking number.

Who knows what will happen with this cruise, especially since Argentina and Chile are closed.  I am giving this about a 40% chance of it happening right now.

We booked while onboard for a cruise 2 years out, but I imagine the discount structure is the same:

A total of $450 each in discount off the cruise fare

a single $200 on board credit for the current cruise

6 months final payment deadline rather than the customary 12

The amount of the discount is based on the length of the cruise. OBC is the same.

One person on the  UK sailing   thread  back in June and another cruiser on the early Malta sailings did  book while on board for back to back for another. Need to read those threads  to find them. Sit down with a nice beverage and explore those posts.

Why don't you use the Chat on Viking website and ask if you can book the next cruise while on board.

Here in Bermuda - no need to exit the ship, I think.

This would be true on cruises that visited more than one country, but not on the Bermuda Escape cruises here in Bermuda. We boarded the ship just after 11 am and there were still pax from previous cruise on board waiting for their turn to disembark to board buses to the airport. They had to vacate the cabin by 8am but can linger in public area anywhere on ship.

We have been on a few B2B on NCL and if the Disembark/embark port is in USA we needed to get off the ship to wait in terminal until zero count is reached before re-embarking. When sailing B2B from Rome to Barcelona and thence to Miami, we were allowed off ship to explore Barcelona and had to wear In Transit sticker on us and have valid cruise card to re-board the ship.

Depends on the country of the disembark/embark.

The times we experienced the zero-count were also only in US Ports.
