Boarding check in. ‘Yellow lane’

Does anyone have experience of being sent to yellow lane check in.  - i am airline crew and travel a lot. - in answering the health questions on the app as having travelled internationally in the previous 14 days before the cruise’  the app then deems me ‘unhealthy’ (poor choice of word when it would be better to say “extra health screening needed”.       I am fully healthy, vaccinated and testing regularly for my job so I’m hoping the yellow lane will simply be an annoying extra formality.

thankyou for all answers

kind regards

Appears so.  Too bad they don't have exceptions, but there'd be too many to program and the IT team cannot get the basics going.  Agree that identifying someone who answered such a question as you did "unhealthy" is presumptuous at best.

From what I've seen (we've been on one sailing since the return to service), it is just a formality.  They need to take a few extra precautions and you will most likely be onboard in no time.  It's one of those things where the bark is worse than the bite.  Bon voyage!!

Hi,

firstly hope you have a lovely cruise and the health check goes well.

We can’t get the app to work properly. Could u please post your experience/ observations of the various lines inside the terminal as this is driving us crazy.

we don’t cruise until late October.

Thanks

Just to provide some clarity to other cruisers who might be concerned about "Yellow Lane". The situation is, as confirmed by Princess Customer Service that in the case of yellow lane passengers:

1. If you select "Overseas" travel within 14 days then it should be OK and you'll just get a few more questions and providing you have no other issues and test OK then you should be fine.

2. If you select "Been in close contact" within 14 days  (i.e. been alerted by NHS test and trace) then you should call Customer Services before going to port as most likely you'll be denied boarding. It did not seem to matter if you'd since had a negative PCR test.  This was our situation. We called and were told not to go to port and they cancelled the cruise (understandably). We'd not been in close contact in true terms, but we had been alerted by test and trace - as such we were formally 'in close contact'. I appreciated how safe they were being, even if it meant a missed cruise in my case.

Now, as Customer Service cancelled our cruise "pre boarding" we were only offered a cruise credit. Customer services said if we wanted a cash refund we'd have to go to the port, go through the yellow lane process and be 'formally' denied boarding - then we'd get a refund. Wasn't totally sure this was the right approach by Princess but happy enough as we'll cruise again to use the credit.

Hope that provides some clarity for those in the "yellow lane" for future cruises.

Sorry for the late reply - thankyou for the replies I recieved before sailing!

as one mentioned - the words "not healthy" on the app was presumptious; for me - having travelled from the USA within the 14 days prior (and USA is an amber country) being sent to the yellow lane simply meant 2 minutes of face to face with a ships doctor and then we were onboard in minutes after that.

A lot of stress pre sailing due to this process but in the end was ok.

Yesterday I went in my medallion app and saw where I was now in the yellow line.  I was in a hurry and didn't have time to look at how I'd answered questions.  After reading this thread, it has me concerned because I may have said I had lung cancer.  I haven't traveled internationally or been around anyone who has/had Covid.  If I did indicate I had had lung cancer, what should I do?  Do I need a letter from my oncologist stating I am cancer free and fine to travel to show at embarkation?

I was incorrect about now being in the yellow line -- I should have said blue line.  I still don't know what that means.

Ombud, I've tried to get back into the medical stuff on medallion and all I get is a white screen.  So there you have it.  The medallion worked great up until a few days ago and now it has this hiccup.  How did Princess notify you that you  needed to recertify your health status?  I haven't gotten anything from them.  Plus, 24 hours prior to embarkation, I will be flying to Fort Lauderdale.

It's anywhere within 24 hrs ahead of time. They just ask (extra long screen broken into 3rds then made 8nto a collage):

You have plenty of time. I did it on the metro to the hotel the day before. Someone else said he did it on the shuttle to the pier (he isn't on CC so he didn't know he needed to until I told him)

@lakemurraykid you may want to look at your travel checklist section to see whether Medallion has dropped something that was originally checked off as green.  For some reason this happened to me last week... the app suddenly showed that we needed our passports added even though they have been there for months.  I simply checked on the already uploaded documents and “added” them again and everything went back to green.   Double check to see that all the green bubbles are still green- it could be a simple glitch in the app.

Shelly, thank you for suggesting this. I had been at green until this happened.  I did make a mistake -- I'm not at yellow but at blue.  But again, I really appreciate your reaching out to me.

This may sound like a silly question... If we are flying in from Canada will I have to check that I have travelled internationally in the past 14 days

AFAIK, the answer should be yes, as travelling from the here in Canada to the US is technically international travel. Practically speaking, all it means is that you would be flagged Yellow (and IIRC insultingly called "unhealthy" by the App) and be directed to a line at checkin. Hopefully it's the same line you would have to enter to pick up your medallion anyway,  so answering that question should not be a big deal. Enjoy your trip ;o)

  • 3 months later...

I had COVID earlier this month (the same month that my cruise was scheduled).   I recovered (i.e., Negative test result) a few days prior to the required 48 hour pre-embarkation COVID test.  However, after answering the health questionnaire, I was assigned to the "Yellow Lane" with a status of "Not Well".  Since this was the day before I was scheduled to fly, I was so worried because I couldn't find any information on-line regarding what was going to happen when I went to board having been labeled "Not Well".   I wanted to clarify for anyone with the same concerns, Princess told me over the phone that all that was required was a negative test result taken within 48 hours prior to embarkation - I'm confirming that was the case.  Although I was prepared to have to go through secondary screening, at the port, none was required.

I guess anyone on a B2B booked separately would have to answer "yes" to the international travel question then too? And be marked yellow...

You do not need to re-register on the MC if doing a b2b

As others have responded, NO to reconfirming health status when on B2B. Did 1/27 and 1/31 on Regal Princess and while they did test us, we did not need to declare any international travel or health (if I recall correctly) but as we did not leave the ship at any port I wasn't paying attention.

That said, I just got off Regal's 2/26 sailing on Thursday 3/3. Am heading back to FLL tomorrow morning for 3/7 Regal sailing and am now Yellow Lane as we'd spent a day in Princess Cay and also a morning in Jamaica last week while on the 2/26 sailing.

Was initially a bit alarmed despite negative covid test yesterday. Appreciate prior posts that this shouldn't be a big deal during embarkation. Thank you.

We had that happen boarding the Emerald last week. It took less than a minute to say we’d travelled in the last two weeks before we were escorted around the green lane line and directly to a check-in agent

Could be just a glitch in the princess system everyone in our travel party ( just disembarked last week ) had their status on the app go from green to blue to yellow then back to green . It was no real problem but just a glitch we all rebooted our phones and our status returned to green lane . Embarking was pure chaos because of the mandatory testing at the cruise terminal for all approx 1800 passengers at the same time everyone boarded right around the same time because of this and Hawaii required a qr code to be set up ahead of time and some passengers had not done that so we all had to wait for everyone to be cleared to board .
