I thought they were weeding out the smokers, not allowed to smoke/loiter if not actively playing in the casino?

Ah, don’t know about that. There seemed to be plenty of smoke in the air.

One thing I remembered about why I hated the layout of the Triumph (now Sunrise) was having to walk through the casino to access the other parts of Promenade. That ship has some interesting dead ends on decks 3, 4 and 5.

Was the bar open? The latest thing was they were closing casino bars.

The new rules didn't start until September 11th across the Carnival fleet.

On Panorama now.  No casino bar so not many people hanging out just to smoke.  Mask reminders constantly with announcements. No problem getting drinks, plenty of bar servers.

Do you have to wear a mask at all times indoors or just when entering restaurants, comedy club, in the elevator? Like walking down the promenade…mask required?

Anytime you are indoors you are supposed to have a mask on, except when eating or drinking. One twist to that on our cruise on the Magic was in the showroom, where there were signs posted that it was a “sip and cover” venue.  So mask on unless you were actively taking a drink of your beverage. Any other dining venue was just mask on until you were seated.

Having said that, we did see folks indoors and in the elevators not masked up. This was not the majority though. Most people were pretty good about following the expectations. The only place I actually saw a crew member enforce it though was once in the entrance to the buffet.

Happy Sailing everyone! 😀

What I can recall is:

1. No one allowed in casino unless you are playing the slots or games. No one allowed to just watch.

2. Casino bar will be closed. Will have to order drinks from bar staff.

it was “strongly recommended” indoors on Mardi Gras. And required in restaurants, elevators and certain entertainment venues. So definitely a valid question to ask people who have been on the ships I’m going on (Panorama and Vista).

Greg - pretty much same as when we were on Mardi Gras with you a couple weeks ago.  Hallways, outside, etc not required.  I would say they announce masks a little more in the showrooms and Casino.  Guests are about the same as Mardi Gras as far as compliance.

Sounds good to me.

I never saw any of that and saw plenty of spectators

In casino if smoking and drinking, no one cared. If you had a drink near you, no one cared. Only if you got right next to someone would you see people mask up

I was on the Mardi Gras the week of August 28th.  The change I saw was that no one was allowed to smoke in he casino until it was officially opened.  On prior cruises, people would go into the casino on embarkation day and smoked before sailing.  I saw one jerk (and I'm a smoker) give the bartender at the casino bar a hard time because he would not give ashtrays to anyone until the casino opened. This was when we had sailed from San Juan and the casino had not opened yet.

When the casino opened, they would send staff around to put ashtrays at the machines in the smoking area.

I hadn't heard about no one allowed in the casino unless they are playing.  How would this work?  What if you are waiting for a certain machine, or if you are watching your husband or friend play?  It's sometimes impossible to be playing because all machines are full.

Mardi Gras has a great design - all casino areas have doors enclosing the gambling areas, and most were automatic or self closing.  Areas adjacent to the MG's casino had little 3rd hand smoke.

There were many "no smoking" machines and there was good guest compliance on the 9/4 sailing. Mask wearing helped out as well, a side benefit.

Most of the heavy smoke was around the bar area.

Here is the new casino rule as stated on Carnival's main website. I copy and pasted the appropriate section as well as the weblink to Carnival's website where is information is listed.

There are a number of casinos onboard that have window alcoves in between rows of slots.  Smokers will sit there and at nearly machines and just smoke, no play.  They were affronted when you asked 'are  you playing"?  On the Dream, there is a walkway that goes thru the casino, lined with slots.  Non players would sit there with strollers (kids included) next to them on the walkway and chain smoke.
