Upgrade & YC questions

I'm considering the upgrade bid. But before I do just want to make sure I understand right.
I have 4 people in my cabin is the price or bid for the upgrade pp? it says per guest (2).  I have 2 young kids. I want to make sure its not 4 times that price.

Ok now the YC. I get the better dining and a concierge and butler service. What does this really mean?
We are a simple family. I'm from a very simple Irish family grandma grew up on a farm with no electricity and no running water.  I have worked in fine dining and the food was great. We enjoy outback and chain style steak houses.  So is YC worth all that extra cost?  Maybe I can't see all the things they can do that I don't know about.
The  Aurea experience does seem worth it to us.

Price for the upgrade is just the first 2 guests in the cabin so you won't pay for the other 2. Oct. 2nd will be our first YC experience. We have sailed on NCL in The Haven (similar to YC). I like the areas of seclusion in these Ships within a Ship. My vacations are a decompression for me. I'm a Disney World manager and deal with alot of stress daily. Getting away from everything and have people take care of me for a change is why we book these Ship within a Ship concepts. But be warned once you go Yacht Club or The Haven you might not want to go back to a normal cabin. From what I've seen in these boards the YC is suppose to a better experience than The Haven. So, YES it will be worth the extra cost.

I am wondering how much you will benefit from YC with 2 small children at the increased cost.

When we sailed with our kids, they did not want to eat in dining room and enjoyed the main buffet much more. They liked seeing their choices and then making selections.

YC is usually a sedate and low key environment. I think Kids would not be happy as pool is very small and they would want to be with other children at main pools.

I think Aurea has the best of all worlds for a family.

We would not have the kids eat in YC. they are too picky they want chicken nuggets and mac n cheese. We figured we could eat while they were in kids club. Then take them to eat.
What does the butler really do?  let me be really lazy?
We also don't really drink My wife will have 2-3 drinks maybe a day.  But we will drink virgin frozen drinks and coffee drinks and milk shake type drinks all day long.

It depends what your bid cost would be. On our upcoming cruise the minimum bid was I believe $850 pp for YC

We’ve been in the YC on Divina in 2019 but we were upgraded for free. It was amazing however we’re mid 50’s and didn’t have children with us.

Not sure I would have wanted to be in the YC when we used to take our children with us 25 yrs ago.

It really depends on your children, nobody knows them like you do.

It is a very laid back relaxing atmosphere that I know my kids would not have enjoyed when they were little.

I didn’t see any children in the YC when we sailed. It was mainly couples and some parent/older children folks cruising together.

We're mid 50's also and the YC is perfect for us. You do see some younger people, and on every sailing I've done (including the 3-day 8/23 one), I've seen kids in the YC. However, the vast majority I've seen are between 40 and 70.

The YC is very relaxed as opposed to the rest of the ship. My kids are grown now, but when they were younger they would have hated it.

So, with young kids, you end up spending a lot of time *outside* of the YC, which kind of defeats the purpose of being in the YC to begin with 🙂

True in our case.

RCCL Oasis Class (Wonder OTS) with the new "Suite Neighborhood" or Celebrity's Retreat could also be in our future.

It can vary. Some specifics favor NCL Haven and some favor MSC Yacht Club. I enjoy both but the ship selected is also a factor.

Ours (7 & 5 at the time) enjoyed the Yacht Club dining and the specialty restaurants. It all depends on the kids no matter what the age.

Nah, mine were happier with the pool to themselves.

The YC staff will get that for them. You can even mention something at lunch what the kids will want for dinner and the YC staff will make it happen.

Not knowing the age of your children, when I sailed on Meraviglia in YC, there were some children who were seemed perfectly happy to be sitting with their family in the YC Restaurant.  I would guess that these children were in the 8-10 year old range.  The staff doted on them and that pleased the children.

You can easily access the amenities of the rest of the ship outside the YC including the larger pools.  Such a change of "scene" might even be helpful your children.

There is a Family Section in the buffet restaurant that I think is open most of the time.  Items that you mentioned were available.  Plus, there are burgers, pizza, and many desserts available that are kid-friendly.

Having them, if they are old enough, experiencing a taste of fine dining in the YC Restaurant could be a "learning experience" for them.

Having experienced YC on three cruises, reading your posts carefully, I would conclude Aurea is what you are looking for.

Yacht Club has it's own buffet.  It's small but has plenty of choices.  Whatever your children want will be available to them in YC.

Looks like you haven't read the whole thread, so I quoted the relevant post from the OP above to help you! 😉

I did read the whole thread.   I mentioned that the YC has a buffet, in case the OP didn't know.

Just to be clear, the buffet is for lunch and depending on the ship can be large or small. Regardless, there isn't really "kids" food on it.

Breakfast too.  I consider hamburgers, kids food.  If you ask, when you board,  for chicken nuggets, they will get them for you.  You can also order room service for free.

I remember a grill that would prepare burgers.  French Fries were available as well as I recall.

LOL, point taken. Honestly, I'm never up early enough for breakfast other than the last day so always forget about that. But my real point was a) it isn't for dinner and b) doesn't focus on kids food.

Yes, in the YC they will get you whatever you want, but I don't want the OP to think there is a buffet for kids like in the MDR.

Correct!

For Breakfast and Lunch, I wish the buffet had a larger selection of sliced meats, cheeses, and a wider variety of breads.

One thing to keep in mind is that there is no quick dinner meal in the YC restaurant.  At peak times, their kitchen can start to get overwhelmed.  Even when expressedly asking to be served quickly so we could partake in some of the ship activities, the earliest we have gotten out is in about 80 minutes.  (You would have to drop a course or two otherwise.)

When you have the time, this is a perfect way to laze away the evening - but when you don't (or when your kids can't), be prepared to join the muggles.

Not even in peak times. Service is not rushed in the YC. At lunch one day in port, several guests sat down to have lunch (pre-covid) and asked the waiter if he could hurry because they had a tour. Their hamburgers were left on their plates, some with only a bite as their butler came to escort them to their tours.

That sounds to me very much a bad call on the part of the guests concerned, rather than a YC service issue! 😉

I agree with your assessment. The guests could not have gone anywhere else as the butler would not go looking all over the ship. The YC restaurant was empty, everyone was already off the ship on their tours. The waiters were very 'simpatico' and kept filling their wine glasses, but it all did not 'hurry' the chefs. In this instance a nice 'box lunch' might have made a better choice.

If they were in a "hurry," they could have gone to the One Deck or the regular buffet.

From what I understand about MSC YC and the rest of the cruise population on a ship. That tours generally congregate in one of the onboard lounges and are escorted down to their tours. We, as YC guests generally are asked to show up in the TSL and are escorted by a butler. I do not think the butlers will send out a 'search party' to One Deck or the regular buffet. And one can just about imagine the brouhaha that might erupt among the other passengers waiting patiently on the tour bus for 'those entitled people' having their lunch, cutting into valuable tour time waiting and waiting. Better to leave them on the ship....
