Can someone help me with this predicament?

So I am due to cruise January 30. I was sailing with a friend of mine. She purchased travel insurance I didn’t. She was exposed to Covid and took a test. She’s currently waiting for results but her job won’t let her come back to work until she proves a negative. Now the issue is if she misses work she will lose her PTO and therefore will have to cancel the cruise. BTW I booked casino rate,  So my questions are

1. Will travelers insurance cover that, it kind of falls under sickness but not really LOL?

2.  I’ll still plan on going, regardless, will I incur any charges if she does not go?
3. She purchased Cruise cash will she lose it or will they refund her?
Thanks for any help!

Check the list of covered reasons for cancellation in the policy. Some will cover it if your time off is cancelled or if you are required to work. It might fall under that provision. If the claim is approved, the insurance company will reimburse in cash.

In order for your friend to get a future cruise credit, she’d have to test positive within 14 days of embarkation. If she can’t provide a verified positive test in that time window, she’ll have to rely on insurance, and she’ll have to notify Carnival of cancellation. In other words, she can’t just fail to show up because insurance won’t pay under those circumstances.

As for your situation, it is customary for cruise lines to charge a single supplement if one person cancels, but I don’t know how Carnival handles casino rates.

1) your friend needs to find out with her insurance.  Policies vary greatly when it comes  to coverages. Its all in the fine print.

2) Yes, if she no-shows on a casino rate. They would have the right to charge “YOU” the prevailing non discounted rate plus a single supplement.

3) cruise cash should be refundable if the passenger is not sailing. She, again you have to call Carnival for that.

Based on CDC guidelines if your friend is vaccinated then she should not have to quarantine due to exposure so she should review the company polices. Cruise cash is refundable if a person does not sail. (This happened to me several years ago when I got sick right before a cruise.)

Her insurance would need to specifically include COVID coverage

Casino rates are tricky. Doesn't sound good for YOU.  If she cancels, and her insurance covers, she will be fine.  But, YOU will have to cover her share of your room. That is why no-shows are frequent with casino rates. The only 'fair' thing to do is when she cancels, pay you half of the difference in fare that you will now be responsible for.

Awesome thank you!

If its your casino rate and you end up going solo you will be charged double that rate-

ie if you booked a $100pp casino offer and ended up solo you would pay $200
