Well it sounds like it isn't covid related if they were just allowing them to waltz through the casino. 🙂

Exactly!  No hazmat suits seen!  I would be a little surprised if anyone has CoVid onboard this cruise.  I guess we will find out more when everyone is tested tomorrow when we disembark!

We are considering this cruise for the Jan 31 10day.  Wondering on the quarantine, if you have an inside cabin or outside balcony. I don't mind the balcony but would not want to be stuck on an inside cabin for 5 days.

I personally spoke to the medical staff earlier in the cruise. Look back in these posts for what I learned. You would only be put in a balcony. No insides are being used for quarantine is what the medical staff told me.

Thank you very much for your effort!  It’s very helpful.

I appreciate your kind words. It’s nice to know what I posted helped you. I’ve gotten so much from CC members I am happy to reciprocate.

You and your fellow cruisers bravely embarked at the peak of the omicron surge, in contrast to several hundred others (ourselves included) who decided to cancel when the CDC, just a few days before we were scheduled to embark, raised the Covid-19 Travel Health Notice from 3 to 4 for travel by cruise ship. We have been following your "live from" postings with great interest, and your mostly positive experiences have encouraged my 98-year-old husband and me to think that we may be able confidently to set sail on the cruise we have booked for late summer.  Many thanks!

We weren't discouraged to read that you learned of a couple of covid cases aboard--fewer than one would expect ashore for sure!  Wonder if we will learn the results of the pre-debarkation tests.

Awwww you warm the cockles of me heart. I can’t say what’s right for you.

I wish now I had snapped a snappy of the most travelled passenger the other day and the lovely woman who came to the disco tonight with her walker. They were most likely in their 90’s or looking at the back side of the 80’s at least. Such tender care was demonstrated towards them.

Princess is doing it right however everyone must talk to their doctors, do research and decide for themselves what is best for them.

And thanks for calling me brave. I’ve always wanted to be brave. I keep trying to be brave. I think I’m winning that battle.

I think all of us who love cruising are very interested in what is happening on the ships - the experience has the possibility of being so different. It really does seem like Princess has handled things so much better than Royal - the stories coming from those cruises have us all wanting to get educated about who we are sailing with. I  know I have not been on here for months but I am certainly hanging out here now.  And you, HaveDog, are curious too and have the same interest, not only that, you are taking the time to let us know what's happening. You have been a great reporter and are really appreciated! God, would I love a Princess Irish Coffee with whipped cream right now!☺️

Now, back to the Ruby…..our room steward came by last night to check our booster shot status.  It just took a minute for him to note the dates on his form.  I believe San Francisco is requiring all passengers to have a booster shot or a negative test on board before disembarking.

Wonder what happens if your test is positive?

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but what pier did you embark from?  I'm sailing on 1/31 and had to search for info that the the ship could be at Pier 27, or it might be at Pier 33.  Did they ever tell you specifically where to go or were you on your own to find the right pier? And thanks for all the great posts.

should be in your boarding pass.

Someone started a thread regarding COVID testing at San Francisco pier on embarkation (to Hawaii).  I am unable to find a single news article or Princess alert that states any such announcement.

Would someone onboard the Ruby find out what the "real" story is and report back?

I know only the following.

Princess requires a negative COVID test 2 days before embarkation.

Hawaii requires you to fill out safe travels app/get QR Code, be vaccinated or tested, and Princess is providing a test on a sea day before arriving into Honolulu (first port call).

Other than that, I can not find anything that says Princess is testing day of embarkation at the pier for a voyage to Hawaii.

I know that most have left the ship.  Just hoping someone can verify San Francisco requirement from some staff onboard current Ruby voyage.

Thanks.

We're boarding Wednesday in San Pedro and haven't heard about any new testing requirements.  Friends on the ruby indicated they thought "new" testing was a San Francisco requirement, but no one seemed to know for a fact.

I personally had a lot of anxiety pre cruise but once onboard and seeing how great the precautions that were being taken were I slept the best I had in almost a month! It was great! I loved the Crooners crew and everything in between! Pic of turtle shirts for tax!

HAL is testing in San Diego today. It is not a San Francisco requirement. It doesn’t make sense for the port city to test people that are leaving the city. I understand the disembarkation testing. 🤗

Yes, I understand.  But who is requiring this.  Certain cruise lines, certain states or ports, or someone else?

Pamster, I don't believe there are boarding passes any more.  I can print my luggage tags from my booking on my computer, but the boarding pass is on the Medallion App--it shows my embarkation time (I'm group A) and there's a QR code.  It just says San Francisco for my Sailing Port and Departure Port.

San Francisco Updates Booster Vaccination Requirement for Cruise Passengers

Grand Princess in the Port of San Francisco

The Port of San Francisco has announced that effective Jan. 7, it is requiring cruise passengers who disembark in the area to either have had their booster doses of the coronavirus vaccine or test negative upon arrival.

“Due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases … the Department of Public Health is now requiring all vessels that disembark passengers at the Port of San Francisco to test all passengers that are not up-to-date on vaccination (meaning completing an initial vaccination series and being boosted when eligible) before coming ashore,” the port wrote in a statement.

“This requirement is stricter than federal and state guidelines and is intended to protect the people of San Francisco,” it added.

The statement was made in light of the Ruby Princess’s recent arrival at the port, where 12 passengers tested positive upon arrival. According to the statement, 25 percent of the ship’s guests fell under the requirement of having to test when the ship docked last Thursday.

“All individuals (who tested positive) are either asymptomatic or experiencing mild symptoms. No passenger has required medical attention and no hospitalization is needed,” the statement read.

The port said that cruise operations in San Francisco resumed safely in strict compliance with all applicable U.S. CDC rules and regulations, as well as protocols and procedures required by San Francisco Department of Public Health.

According to the statement, the Department of Public Health, the Port of San Francisco and individual cruise lines partnered to develop memoranda of agreement (MOA) for all vessels calling in San Francisco. The MOAs establish protocols for all vessels that embark, disembark and transit through San Francisco.

Per the MOU, Princess Cruises has provided private transport and quarantine accommodations, the port said.

You’re right. I was actually thinking of the Travel Documents that you can print from the same page as the luggage tags. But I looked at ours for March and it’s not on there. Sorry for the misinformation. ☺️

No apology needed.  You were just trying to help. It's all different now that everything is encoded in the Medallion and the app (which is mind-numbingly glitchy).  It would have been nice if they confirmed exactly which pier it is.

Hawaii was the state that just required embarking passengers to Hawaii to do a COViD test at the pier today in San Francisco.  I was told that this was just announced on Friday. This was not a Princess requirement, but from the state of Hawaii.  (per a cruise embarkation port employee)

WHAT??? So all the fussing about to get the test 2 days prior is for naught and another test is required before boarding the ship to Hawaii at the pier??? I assume Princes will notify us? I guess a test just before we fly is still good idea, that way we don't fly there and then find we can't board.

And, thank you for all this information! I've enjoyed reading trough it and drooling over the food pics.

very good of you all,

Pat

I visited with the most traveled passenger the morning before departing the ship. He has over 1100 days at sea, and has 3 more booked (so far) and is 92 years young! He was staying on for the Hawaii portion so guessing he will be most traveled passenger again. That’s so awesome!
