Refunds for excursions in cancelled ports

Does anyone have recent experience with refunds for excursions that didn't take place because a port was cancelled?  Is the refund made to the method of payment or as a credit to onboard account?  We have a villa rented in GSC and it's quite a bit of money.  I doubt we'll rack up anywhere close to that amount onboard.  So what happens in that case?

That's what I'm afraid of...we have a 2-bedroom villa booked and there are only 2 of them.  So don't want to miss out by cancelling and risking it not be available.  But also don't want to float a $1k OBC which we'll probably have no use for.

I had an excursion purchased with new money (not FCC) and the port day changed, the amount paid was returned as a credit to my account.  Despite the letter saying that the excursion would be automatically rebooked to the new date, the credit remained on my account until I called the excursion desk to rebooked it myself.

We had credit from cancelled excursions go to our onboard account and the last night of the cruise they called me to come down to Guest Services so they could issue a refund.  Cold.  Hard.  Cash.

I was pleasantly surprised.

My onboard account was credited for an excursion I bought a month before my December Escape cruise which was canceled because not enough people signed up for it (per a shore excursion staffer).

The shore excursion team notice telling me about the excursion canceled by NCL, which was left for me at my cabin the first night of the cruise, stated it would be refunded to original payment method. It was not.

We had 2 excursions cancelled because of missed ports in December on Joy. It looked like it was added to OBC but on last day of cruise we were asked to come to customer service. We were given full refund in excursions in cash.

Like cash cash?  Physical paper money??

You do realize they have a casino onboard that takes in lots of cash....

Obviously 🙄, but taking cash out of the casino to distribute to passengers at Guest Services also seems strange.  Not doubting that's what happens but just seems odd.

Both of my excursions were cancelled last week on the Gem. I ended up with $600 in cash when I left the ship as I also had some refundable onboard credit. I was hoping they could just place it back on the credit card used for the purchase, but three different employees said the only option was to take the cash.

It would be a refundable OBC so you can cash out.

Mine was done as original form of payment (credit card) when they removed Nicaragua as a port of call for the Bliss (Jan 21st). I called and they said it's already been processed "in the background". Still waiting... (@crystlvylt1 got theirs in "good time").

My cancelled NCL Shuttle Transfer refund took a couple of weeks to post to my bank, though.

Better than OBC!  Just seems so weird to me that they'd have stacks of cash lying around!!  NCL, makin' it rain 🤣

They have breathtaking amounts of cash.  In the casino, they pay cash up to $10,000 per person.
