ElizaSTN Posted January 11, 2022 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2022 Does anyone have recent experience with refunds for excursions that didn't take place because a port was cancelled? Is the refund made to the method of payment or as a credit to onboard account? We have a villa rented in GSC and it's quite a bit of money. I doubt we'll rack up anywhere close to that amount onboard. So what happens in that case?
TNcruising02 Posted January 11, 2022 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2022 Someone mentioned getting the refund in the form of an OBC. I don't know if that's how they always do it, so I cancelled all of my excursions for my upcoming cruise and got a cash refund. I figure that I can always book on the ship. ElizaSTN Posted January 11, 2022 Author #3 Share Posted January 11, 2022 That's what I'm afraid of...we have a 2-bedroom villa booked and there are only 2 of them. So don't want to miss out by cancelling and risking it not be available. But also don't want to float a $1k OBC which we'll probably have no use for. julig22 Posted January 11, 2022 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2022 I had excursions cancelled on my last cruise and it went back as a credit on my account, not obc as far as I could tell.
n4w Posted January 11, 2022 #5 Share Posted January 11, 2022 I had an excursion purchased with new money (not FCC) and the port day changed, the amount paid was returned as a credit to my account. Despite the letter saying that the excursion would be automatically rebooked to the new date, the credit remained on my account until I called the excursion desk to rebooked it myself. We had credit from cancelled excursions go to our onboard account and the last night of the cruise they called me to come down to Guest Services so they could issue a refund. Cold. Hard. Cash. I was pleasantly surprised.
farjar Posted January 11, 2022 #7 Share Posted January 11, 2022 When NCL cancelled our upcoming stop in Bonaire the refund for our snorkel excursion went back to the credit card we paid for it with. I believe if YOU cancel an excursion you get OBC.
Bonobochick Posted January 11, 2022 #8 Share Posted January 11, 2022 (edited) My onboard account was credited for an excursion I bought a month before my December Escape cruise which was canceled because not enough people signed up for it (per a shore excursion staffer). The shore excursion team notice telling me about the excursion canceled by NCL, which was left for me at my cabin the first night of the cruise, stated it would be refunded to original payment method. It was not. Edited January 11, 2022 by Bonobochick added something.
purplecow15 Posted January 11, 2022 #9 Share Posted January 11, 2022 We had 2 excursions cancelled because of missed ports in December on Joy. It looked like it was added to OBC but on last day of cruise we were asked to come to customer service. We were given full refund in excursions in cash. peg013 Posted January 11, 2022 #10 Share Posted January 11, 2022 It will be posted to your onboard account and then on the last night of the cruise you can get the money back in cash. If you don't pick it up, they usually send you a check in 3-4 weeks.

Obviously 🙄, but taking cash out of the casino to distribute to passengers at Guest Services also seems strange. Not doubting that's what happens but just seems odd. jkrislc Posted January 12, 2022 #17 Share Posted January 12, 2022 Both of my excursions were cancelled last week on the Gem. I ended up with $600 in cash when I left the ship as I also had some refundable onboard credit. I was hoping they could just place it back on the credit card used for the purchase, but three different employees said the only option was to take the cash. crystlvylt1 Posted January 12, 2022 #20 Share Posted January 12, 2022 My NCL canceled port for Nicaragua excursion for a 1/21/22 Bliss cruise was finally (took forever) credited to my credit card. It showed as a negative balance for a month and then poof was gone and 2 weeks later we got the cc refund.
SireDoime Posted January 12, 2022 #21 Share Posted January 12, 2022 (edited) Mine was done as original form of payment (credit card) when they removed Nicaragua as a port of call for the Bliss (Jan 21st). I called and they said it's already been processed "in the background". Still waiting... (@crystlvylt1 got theirs in "good time"). My cancelled NCL Shuttle Transfer refund took a couple of weeks to post to my bank, though. Edited January 12, 2022 by SireDoime ...
