Glittering Sands Beach?

Never heard of it. Doesn't show up as a place on any maps nor do I know anyone around here who's ever heard of it.  It's likely some cruise line name for a beach break, but no idea what beach they're taking you to..

Here's the YouTube reference. It is a "beach break" place that's offered by at least three different cruise lines.

Yeah, have seen the official "press release" news story, I did actually do some research before responding, including checking with family in Anse La Raye  - doesn't make any difference to anything I wrote above. No one knows anything about it, including those of my family who line in Anse La Raye.. Particularly as it was theoretically opened just before the pandemic hit and would have subsequently been shut down for the duration... .

If you're wanting a beach break via the ship's tours, go for it. Why not?  The area isn't home to our nicer beaches, but doesn't hurt to check out some off the beaten path places!

Enjoy, safe travels.

If anyone is interested in an off the mainstream beach, then a personal favourite is the Naked Fisherman beach/restaurant.

Just a nice relaxed place to dine, drink and lounge on a small, but perfectly formed, beach, away from ‘Tourists’, for those who will appreciate it

Yes, the Naked Fisherman beach aka Smuggler's Cove beach, is lovely. And delicious food and cocktails.

Anse Cochon is another wonderful beach, off the regular tourist trail.

Vigie beach, walking distance from the port, is mainly locals and those awaiting their flights at Vigie airport. Choc Beach is beautiful also, no amenities in the immediate area, but beautiful beach.

Landings beach is beautiful, and Gros Islet beachfront.

And so forth all around the north end, and off the main tourist beats

Safe travels..

Thank you Princess.

Ahh….. Gros Islet…. Happy Memories of spending time there.  The taxi (sight seeing).  Followed by the little ferry.   Then the barter of a water resistant radio for jewellery (which we still have) with Bushman…. Then chartering a boat to take us back to the ship, sharing a bottle of spiced rum, without glasses, on the journey. And buying a rare shell from the diver straight from his boat.  Still have…

Wonderful, wonderful memories…. A beautiful island and even more beautiful people.
Oh, nearly forgot the special bottle of “Bush Rum”, which we shared on the ship…. Don’t ask as to how it went…..Friends still speak about the numbing experience.

Think you may have been the same person who we met in the Supermarket about 10 years ago

Thanks so much to you both!

A word of caution.  Cruise herds have discovered Vigie, as the taxi is only $10 for 4pax or a 20/30 minute walk.   So it’s now not the place it was.

Would Vigil work as a walk to get some exercise?

You could or walk around the covered market stalls opposite the port.

Either way be prepared to run the gauntlet of cab drivers desperate for a fare, there and back

Additional.

There used to be a shuttle (small boat) service from the cruise terminal to the town, just a short sea hop, for $2 pp e/w thereby missing the cab drivers pleas for business outside the dock gates.  Please understand they are trying to make a living to feed their families.

Don’t know if it’s still running, but no doubt a person with up to date knowledge will post, probably the Princess.

Maybe we will just stay on the ship. Anything worth seeing?

Plenty of wonderful things to see and do as posted by Princess…..But, this will involve taking a tour or taxi, as these places are beyond a short exercise walk…..

Help the economy of this beautiful island and it’s people by spreading dollars, in many places, while you’re there.

What goes around………..

Chairman’s Reserve Distillery has a minimum party rule.  So best to take a tour including a visit.

Then on the return, ask to be dropped off at the market, which is opposite the cruise terminal and a short walk back to the ship,

Forgot to add.

There is also a large Supermarket nearby.

Stand in front or inside the covered market facing the ship.
Immediately to one’s right is a high white building on the corner, to the left of a road junction.  It looks like an entrance to an office block, but this is the way in to the Supermarket.

I don't know if Canadarocks is still interested in an answer about Glittering SAnds Beach, as it has been awhile since that post, but I have been to Glittering SAnds Beach, as a shore excursion off of a ship.  It is probably just set up for ship excursions.  It is a fairly short bus ride to a very private beach, which has  been set up with chairs and a make shift  food buffet and tables.   The beach and water were nice, although quite rough when I was there. The people serving the the food and drinks were very unfriendly. The food was  sparse  and not very good.
