Spartancoach Posted February 14, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2022 We leave on the Panorama Saturday and just got all the final boarding emails from Carnival and noticed that it said masks are required at all times. I assumed prior that outside like everywhere else in the world it is okay not to wear a mask. Do I really need to wear a mask while on the lido deck or playing mini-golf? This seems a little ridiculous.
Joe817 Posted February 14, 2022 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2022 The best recommendation I could offer you is: let your conscience be your guide; observe what the majority of other people are doing, and follow suit; use common sense; and enjoy your cruise.

On the Freedom this past December the masks were loosely enforced. Entering the buffet they were enforcing wearing masks.
tallnthensome Posted February 14, 2022 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2022 You don't need masks outside. Relax .....
bucfan2 Posted February 14, 2022 #5 Share Posted February 14, 2022 As ridiculous as some protocols may appear, masks are not required outside (please don't give them any ideas). 1
Rare NutsAboutGolf Posted February 14, 2022 #6 Share Posted February 14, 2022 Outside a few areas like casino table games, guest services, excursions desk, etc, there's almost zero mask enforcement and if you're told by the crew to mask up and ignore (as I witnessed on my sailing) the crew does nothing. However, the rules currently state: "when outdoors if in large gatherings and physical distancing cannot be maintained"
TNcruising02 Posted February 14, 2022 #7 Share Posted February 14, 2022 Can you copy what you received? Maybe it's a California thing because Carnival isn't requiring wearing masks outdoors unless it's a crowded area or you are within three feet of someone who is not in your group."outdoors if in large gatherings and physical distancing cannot be maintained" " Outdoors – Remain at least 3 feet from others when not wearing a mask and not in your cruise companion group. This is amazingly disrespectful to the crew (who see you do that and consider you a total jerk), not to mention the other people who are not as "special" as you are and know rules are supposed to be followed even when they are not enforced with punishment. Clearly you need more negative reinforcement when it comes to rules. 2

Jasonsterling Posted February 14, 2022 #13 Share Posted February 14, 2022 It wasn't that way on the Vista a couple of weeks ago. Now, in the boarding terminal, yes because that's a federal mandate but out on deck on the ship no and as far as I know it never has been a requirement from the start. I wouldn't worry about it. The major lines are rolling policies back to win summer travelers, plus Omicron probably hit their staffs so hard there's no one left to get it anyway.

After a crewmember said mask up to other passengers, I witnessed several passengers say snarky-rude comments back to crew members. Again, nothing happened. Rule enforcement has always been the second most hotly debated cruising topic (tipping is #1). You can group mask enforcement along with chair hog enforcement as both are incredibly weak. They don't fine you like smoking in non-smoking areas.

That's uncalled for. 4

I prefer them to be in effect, but I hate expecting them to be in effect, then they really are not. Do one or the other so people can make an informed decision as to whether to sail or not. There are far too many people having to ask about mask enforcement from both sides of the issue. 4

Or maybe they just want to do the job they signed up for and do not like to play the "mask police".

Panorama out of California on New Year’s Eve. About half of the people were wearing masks. Obviously no social distancing happening!

No. I am relaying what they said, not whit I think they said or wish they said so I could justify things. They want people wearing masks both for their own health as well as people respecting that it is part of their job. No maybe about it,

Additionally, odds are playing mask police affects their tips specifically for the bar/drink/wait staff. I wore my mask while playing video poker, no one else around me wore theirs at the other machines and I did not witness the drink service staff tell anyone to mask up.
