You only receive casino comps if you play slot machines.

Wrong, you also get points on table games.

IMO, you earn quicker with slots unless you are a big $$ player on tables.

Yes, you can upgrade thru RoyalUp but you can also upgrade thru the casino group.  We have had some great upgrade prices when we upgrade at time of redeeming certificate and offers.

This is definitely not true about receiving comps.

Everyone I know who only plays card games or table games has never gotten a comp offer from Royal Caribbean, but I know people, including me, who has played slots sometimes only $50 and gotten a comp room.

Doesn't matter if you know them or not, it's not how the program works, and people who only play tables get offers as well. It's all about spend & ADT.

As for the $50... well that may have been when royal was so desperate to get people on the ship in hopes they would spend money, but those days are long gone. Unless you win on the $50 and keep playing it back in to increase your points and/or ADT.. you will not get a comp with spending $50.

Heard it isn’t that hard to get casino offers or even free cruises now.  Can anyone comment on what it takes? Realistically, how much does one need to run through the machines to get to a level that matters to them right now?   I was debating bringing a decent amount, having some fun, and seeing if I can’t get some comps for my efforts.

If you get to "Prime" at the casino you'll start getting offers on free cruises.  Plus you get one free 7 night each year.  Inside cabins of course 🙂  And free drinks in the casino.  Not sure but I think to hit prime you need 2500 points which might be 12,500 played.  If you hit prime, calling the casino people is a pleasure.  They actually answer the phone quickly and are very helpful on bookings etc.

Also FYI, if you play enough on a given cruise there will be additional rewards such as specific dollar discounts on future bookings or a free cruise if enough is played.  Of course there are restrictions and rules to be aware of.

Wife likes to play and 3 of our 6 cruises this coming winter are "free".  Of course not really free 🙂

I got a comp room offer from the casino for February. I don't play slots at all, and don't really even gamble much. On a 7 night cruise, I may go through $200-$300 and I cruise once a year on average. I play blackjack and the occasional trip to the hold em table.

For those who may interested in the kinds of comps that Casino Royale offers, you may want to peruse this thread where we discuss things related to the casino loyalty program, mostly related to the kinds of comps people are or (more interestingly) are not getting.

Several there have had their offers diminish in value no longer including offering sailings from ports local to them. We've also started seeing half-comps, where you get the first passenger for free but you have to pay the "discounted casino rate" for the second passenger, even if you're sailing solo.
