My upsell fairy fairy-tale

We're sailing on Mardi Gras in about 3 weeks. A couple of months ago I had gotten an upgrade offer in my planner to go from our OV to a balcony for something like $180 each. My husband likes a balcony, but I don't care much--I'm all about the elbow room in the cabin, and the cabin we had was larger indoors than a balcony cabin. We also had paid $550 each for our original cabin, so that made it even less valuable to us.  I turned it down and didn't think much more about it.

Well.

Today I got an email saying they had an offer for me, so I figured what the heck and called.

Would I like to upgrade to an Ocean Suite, for $150 each (plus the difference in tips, of course)? Mind you, the best price I see for an OS on the website right now is $1749 each. We'd be at $700 each before taxes and tips.

Duh!!!!

So now the only question is whether to tell my husband he's got his balcony AND I've got my interior space, or just wait....

WAIT! Nothing like a good surprise! 🙂

I surprised my now hubby with an upgrade to a balcony on our first cruise together - or at least I tried to! I got an unexpected bonus at work, so I splurged and upgraded us to a balcony. I kept it secret until it got to be time to complete our online registration. We didn't live together at the time and had separate banking accounts. So he had to go in fill out his stuff. I was hoping he wouldn't notice the cabin...but when he did and called me cause he thought it was a mistake! LOL I assured him it was correct and told him what I'd done. He was thrilled...but I was a little bummed that I missed getting to see his face when he first walked in to our cabin!

They put Priority on the luggage tags and Suite Guest on the boarding pass so the surprise probably won't make until you get to the cabin, but I'd keep it under my hat for as long as I could.

If he's like my husband....he still wouldn't even notice lol...my hubby is just the "tell me what time we leave" kind of man and doesn't give it much thought beyond that...LOL

I too, vote for the Surprise. It's nothing like stepping on a Cruise Ship and getting to your room. But to know there is a Surprise Waiting is Priceless! Especially when you see the  look on your DH's Face. It'll all be worth it.

I just booked (another) free cabin....this makes 5 cruises this year 🤪

This one is just a quick 4 day (long weekend) cruise, giving us casino cash AND FREE DRINKS EVERYWHERE (how could I not??)  We are already booked for March, May, August and October....so I squeezed this one in for June and I will slip it into an anniversary card (about a week before sail date).

Yes, I did promise him NO MORE CRUISES THIS YEAR....but c'mon....it's like they're paying me to cruise 🤣

I know--so far I haven't told him, but I'm thinking he'll notice by the time we get to the terminal, if not before. I'm hoping he'll be distracted by the usual bustle around embarkation and just follow me without looking as he often does. 😁

Wow!! That’s quite the up-sell and I would have jumped on that too. What deck did they put you on? I also vote wait and surprise the husband!

They put us on deck 9, near the aft elevators. I'm pretty happy with the location. I originally booked us midship, but I would have taken a suite anywhere at that price!

That's funny. That's the way my wife is. The only time she asks where is the cruise going is when somebody in work asks her. Otherwise she says you take of everything and lmk when we are leaving.😛

I like it this way, "only one cook in the kitchen" as they say....he is so easy going, he doesn't pack for himself or care what excursions we do...he knows I have it covered....now if the car is broke or the sink is clogged, I leave that to him 100% too so it goes both ways LOL....

I accepted an upsell from an interior to a corner aft balcony for $292 a few years ago and tried to keep it a secret.  It was fine for a few days, and I even changed luggage tags after he had loaded the luggage into the car.  It was a secret until I saw him come to a sudden stop as we were approaching the porters, when he noticed the different tags.  It was still a fun secret as long as it lasted.

I don't pack for myself either or if I do I just pull stuff out of the closet/dresser the night before we leave(yes she let's me have 1 of each) and she puts it in the suitcase.

Yes I agree with the it goes both ways. I enjoy doing the searching and booking. My wife, after a long day at the office wants nothing to do with the computer.

It's nice to have a good balance.☺️

I would make it a surprise!

We got offered an upgrade to an OS on our upcoming Mardi Gras cruise, but we turned it down. I keep hoping they offer a better deal so now you've got my hopes up!

(We have a balcony on deck 15 near friends and they offered us an OS on deck 9 for $630)

If they're giving you casino cash, someone is losing more than enough to pay for your trip. Maybe not you. Yet.

lol....no, it's definitely me 🤣  Probably why I get so many....they know they will get some money out of me,...lol....but I never spend more than I can afford to lose....I have hit some jackpots, but probably overall, I'm still in the hole.

Did you book directly through Carnival or did you use a travel agent?
