Just off the Silhouette - fire away with questions

We boarded the Silhouette on March 18 for an 11 day cruise (got off today).  We had a wonderful time and here are some observations, information, etc.

1. We had a 10:30 boarding time.  We got there about 10:20 and went right in.  A couple of minutes going through security and check-in and then waited to board at about 11:15. Love the new boarding process and hope they keep it.

2. We went straight to the OVC to have a drink and some lunch because we weren't sure our cabin or luggage was ready.  We found out that most people had their luggage as soon as they got on, even the early people.  We went to the cabin about 12:30 and the luggage was there.

3. Love the new muster or lack thereof.  So civilized. Check in on the ap, go to your assigned area and check in. Took about 10 seconds.

4. Spent every pre-dinner bar time at the World Class Bar.  I am not addicted to the rum old fashioned. Great bartenders.

5. We had Cabin 8256.  It wasn't a hump but did have a larger balcony. It was also in a great location.

6. Food in the MDR was good but we did feel it had gone down a bit. We ate at the specialty restaurants more than usual because of it.  Loved Murano (as usual) and did Lawn Club for one meal. It was great. I just wish they had smaller appetizers.  I never let a pizza go to waste. We also ate at Tuscan which was our least favorite.

7. Forgot to ask the number of passengers but it was nice not to have a full ship. Never a problem getting a reservation and we walked into the MDR without a wait on the nights we ate there.  The pool was the only thing that was still crowded.  I didn't notice a difference there.

8. We left the ship at each port but mainly to just walk around and leave some money in the local economy.  I did one ship excursion to a beach in Antigua that was fine except the 4 hour excursion turned out to be only 3.  They did give me my money back.  It wasn't an expensive excursion but I would have taken a taxi if I had known I wasn't going to be there that long.

9. I went to a few of the shows and some were better than others.  There seemed to be a lot more music around the ship this time but I could be wrong. Everywhere there was music all day long.

10.  There were some people wearing masks but the vast majority didn't.  All staff and crew wore masks all the time (that I saw).  At the ports, some required masks but didn't enforce it.  On my trip to the beach, we were in an enclosed car but no one except maybe the drive had on a mask.

11. The wifi worked most of the time. Unfortunately, when I needed it for work it was spotty.  I do wish there was better cell and wifi service but I guess when you are in the middle of the Caribbean you can't have everything.

As you can see, I'm no Gen X with my report but I'm happy to answer any questions.  We did book our next cruise as a B2B on the Beyond for next January.  We're lightweights compared to some of the people we met who seemed only to go home to do laundry before their next cruise.

  • 5 months later...

Formal nights are not what we used to see, but a lot more relaxed.  You will see tuxes and formals and capries & golf shirts.  I did not dress formally but wore a nice "church" dress & my husband wore a dress shirt and tie (no coat).  Just be comfortable.

Was there any type of Captain's Club HH in the Sky Lounge? Any Apple equipment to buy? Thanks!!

Do y'all realize this cruise was back in March?  BTW, CC HH is no longer in a particular location (on any ship), and Apple devices are typically not current generation.

Perhaps someone who is on Silhouette now (or just got off) could kindly answer any of these questions and update

Currently on Silhouette Iceland Cruise. jwlane comments still accurate, no HH in Sky lounge, hasn't been for ages.

Hardly anyone in formal wear on Chic nights but just very smart clothes. Over 90% full and the service and food everywhere is very good.

WhoseCaptain, HD and CD?

CD was Eddy Jenkins when we disembarked on 13/08/22 and that the first cruise of his contract, so he will have a few months on Silhouette.

We were told no iPads until September, but not given a date.

Yes.  Bar was open 5pm to late daily last week.

What is considered late ?

What is normal closing times for bars on the ship - thinking of Sky Lounge / Martini Bar / Ensemble lounge / Sunset Bar / Casino - Sports bar ?

Are any of them usually later than others ?   Assume Casino would be - but any of the others ?
