Weird that unvax can test 3 days before and vaxed has only 2 days. 

People can test neg. get on a plane and get covid from the airport.  RCCL please drop testing.

Agree! It's an imposition to get the testing done and it solves nothing.

The logic is that at least some are caught. Its the difference between using a strainer with small holes or big holes. It's better to keep some of the infected off a ship, because it decreased the number of those who can spread the disease. You keep close contacts who are negative off the ship because they have a far greater risk of turning positive than others. The ship is ameliorating risk, not eliminating risk. That's s the goal of epidemiology, also known as population health. There's another concept called numbers needed to treat, which looks at the number of positive people you need to keep it FF a ship to prevent a major outbreak. That's one of the reasons they went from testing 3 days prior to 2 days. Ideally it would be at the terminal, but that would be a logistical nightmare, and if the case were caught by Royal Caribbean, they'd own the quarantine

okay but at least put the window back to 3 days so folks can adjust travel times to be easier.

Three days increases the risk to the other passengers on the ship because more people would turn positive on the intervening days.

well so does the 2 day.  Heck the damn virus is in the air all the time too.

At some point things need to be more reasonable.  I think wearing masks should stay and testing ease back a day.

Royal knows how many folks are denied boarding due to testing positive.  I'd hope they'll keep testing until that number is exceedingly small.

Agree. Hopefully precruise testing is binned completely but while it remains people should have the opportunity to test at home and bring the results with them. Bad enough to miss out on a vacation without incurring the cost and disappointment of getting and testing positive.

Not free anymore. Earlier this month booked Independence OTS on a Monday for a cruise leaving on Friday. No way to get out of work for testing or find available appointments. Testing was $105 per person at the port.

That is why the test the crew so frequently. Don't give them any ideas on spreading that to the passengers. There's a concept called "numbers needed to treat" or NNTT, which calculates the risk of spread, calculating the ability of those who are both negative 2 days before the cruise and vaccinated to come in contact with enough people who can become infected to cause an uptick in numbers. They do re-test those under 12 who are not vaccinated on cruises longer than 7 days because of their risk level. They aren't at great risk if severe illness, but they are transmission vectors.

Kids are not "transmission vectors" as much as people want them to be. There's a reason transmission inside schools is much, much lower than just in the community.

I very much hope so, but realistically either late 22 or early 23. There’s a lot of money on that table from people like me who can go anywhere else without restrictions or hastles

I just checked on this and you are correct! 

 

The cruise line changed March 1 and stop testing at port unless you show up without a negative test within 2 days of cruise.

If you don't have test,  the cruise line will test you for a cost.

 

Things change very often.  Sorry!

That is not how it works.  Unvaccinated must PCR or NAAT test within 3 days, but not the day of departure, and then they are antigen tested at the port on the day of departure.  So they are test twice before getting on.  This makes them less like to pass through a hole in the safety net.   So it isn’t as weird as people think.

Hopefully yes and hopefully sooner then that! Anyone who tells you they know for sure, must have a crystal ball.

perhaps by November.  We shall see.  Noticed despite the prophets on here that the boosters are not mandated yet.  That is a good sign moving forward.
