It will be interesting to see...

I have a theory that perhaps the primary reason we are seeing a number of issues here on the Princess board, especially with COVID, may be due to the nature of the Princess sailings over the past month.  Unlike other lines, Princess has been doing a much greater percentage of ships doing long voyages, whether it be Panama Canal, TA's, Hawaii, or B2B's than other lines.  However, that will change a bit this month.  A number of lines at least have TA's and it will be interesting to see if they have similar issues.  I think that a lot of the 3-7 night sailings done on other lines may have had issues too, but you don't see them until folks have already gotten off the ship.  (This is what we found from our Mardi Gras voyage in March).

I think that people are already making adjustments.  The Carnival Board (related company) is stating that they are receiving notification now that everyone will be tested at the port prior to embarkation on the Transatlantic.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see.  Makes me wonder if 7 days is maybe the max one should do if you are worried about quarantine...

This was how we planned our trip initially.  I didn't want to chance a long cruise, because I assume that there is a much larger percentage of people becoming ill than what is being reported.  Those on 7 day or shorter are likely contracting it, going home, and the ship never has to report.  Unfortunately one of the things I didn't take into account are B2B sailings.  We are on the 2nd leg of what is a B2B, and it truly didn't occur to me that there would be passengers sailing with us that had been on the ship the entire week prior, and I am less than pleased when I think about that option.  Trying to decide now if we want to keep our sailing.

I just checked the CDC Cruise Dashboard and every single Princess, HAL, and Celebrity (as these are the lines that tend to do the longer cruises) passenger carrying vessel with the exception of the Celebrity Summit (which is currently only doing 5-night cruises), is listed as Orange.

Also, 3 of the 4 Disney ships are Orange...

don't be gettin' all up in our grill with this logic stuff. Muddies the waters, confuses the left brain hemisphere, causes anxiety which leads to binge eating.

I checked Royal Princess a week or so ago and it showed "Crew Only" and "Orange".  I checked it just now and, since we will be the first passengers to board since the shutdown and don't board until May 2nd, it still shows as "crew only" but is now listed as "Green" and "Highly Vaccinated".

Edit: I checked the box for all Princess ships and Island Princess is also listed the same way as Royal.

According to the CDC, a ship with 3000 passengers is orange if they have 9 positive cases.  I'd say that's a pretty low bar to reach.

Correct, so it is "Crew Only" and not "Passenger Carrying".

Agree.  Just trying to point out that COVID doesn't discern between cruise lines.

FWIW, it's been a bit entertaining to see all the posts about lack of protocols, etc.  We were on Carnival Mardi Gras back in March and there were over 5,800 people on the ship and there was ZERO Covid precautions on that ship.  I can't recall seeing a single person masked up (except in the embarkation terminal, where it was required). No social distancing either.  It was wall-to-wall people in the casino and theater too.

Checked the dashboard...  Mardi Gras is yellow 🙂

Yes, sorry about that. I re-read the original post and corrected my reply but I was too late for your reply. D'Oh!  (Note to self: Read carefully before replying.)

Yeah, we just went through an entire football season with tens of thousands in stadiums...baseball parks currently packed...Disney was a nightmare crowd...I get that people have this thing about cruise ships and somehow living with 3000 of your closest friends...but it never seems crowded on a ship compared to anywhere else I go.  I'm more worried about Noro from the non-handwashers than from Covid!

I think the cdc web site has useful info and people would be better informed if they avail themselves of it.  Expecting Carnival corp. or any other cruise corp. to jump thru hoops passengers make along the way based on a feeling , not on cdc's guidelines is throwing effort after foolishness.

Today’s covid seems more like a cold than the deadly virus it was.  DH and myself just recovered despite vacs and booster.  Minor cold symptoms.  Yes, some will get very ill and perhaps die just as they have from previous years with the flu.  Covid is here to stay and time for CDC to adjust to it
