So we have just moved to the area and we were curious if anyone had any suggestions for great places where we could go to watch the cruise ships set sail in Boston.

I used to live in Beacon Hill and would often go down when a notable ship was in port. You can get actually quite close to the Black Falcon Pier where they dock, closer than a lot of other cruise ports.

But the best watching is at Castle Island/Fort Independence where the ships sail right by after reversing into the harbor and headed out to sea. Often times they will pass reasonably close. Well worth a trip if you have a ship you want to see in mind.

Castle Island is your best bet. You can watch ships sail and look ovehead, planes landing at Logan. It's a great area to do Harborwalk and grab a snack at Sullivan's. We often go there on a warm summer's night to walk around the fort area and see the people fishing from the piers. There's a statue to Donald McKay, builder of the Flying Cloud. There are limited tours inside the fort, usually on weekends.
