Cruise insurance....

Recommended Posts

Have a cruised booked for August on Carnival.   Looking to get insurance in case my wife or I test positive on our precruise test.  However we cant get it through Carnival because we live in NY.  I tried InsureMyTrip but they said I would have to get "cancel for any reason" BUT I have to cancel 48-72 hours before cruise.  I believe Carnival requires a test 24 hours prior to sailing.   Any advice?   Has anyone from NY dealt with this?

There is a Cruise/Travel Insurance forum full of similar questions & matching answers.

NY does not permit 'cancel of any reason' insurance - probably for a reason that only makes sense to a lobbyist  or bureaucrat in Albany.

I used the Trip Insurance Store [see dedicated sub-forum] to select suitable insurance coverage - including cancel for work reason coverage.

If Carnival's rules are similar to other Carnival sub-brands [e.g. Cunard] if you cannot board [denied boarding] due to Covid reasons, you will receive [non refundable] credit for your cruise fare, and refund of other related purchases [e.g. shore excursions]. That applies to bookings linked to your booking. [check the posted policies and your cruise contract for details]

If you initiate the cancelation, then the standard scheduled forfeiture of advance payments is in place. [less back to you closer to the sailing date]. Without 'cancel for any reason' coverage, cancelations you initiate are not covered by insurance.

Here is the link for the Travel Insurance subforum of CC:

I'm not sure why you would need to get CFAR coverage, but that's a different issue.

I suggest you call the folks at www.TripInsuranceStore.com

--> Call, don't just read the online summaries.

They'll be familiar with the insurance specifics for residents of NY.
