It appears that a masks requirement is left to the Captain. How about in theater?

I've always viewed cruise ship as petri dishes so I prefer safety.

The Capt can decide to require masks on their ship if the situation deems it during a specific cruise. Not sure what the reference to theater is about. It’s a space on the ship as is all others. If the Capt saw the situation required masks inside, that would include the theater.

 

I’m cruising in July, Aug and Oct. But that is obviously my personal decision..along with my family.

Isn't the theater usually fairly full for the evening show(s)? If so people are very close together.

Possibly a recipe for an outbreak of Covid. I'm not sure people are a densely seated elsewhere on the ship.

On our last cruise in Late March and April passengers were seated in the theater with space between groups. We were a group of 4, but there were many 2s.

To us it doesn’t matter if the Capt does , does/not require masks we will take it upon ourselves to wear them and do the best we can to protect ourselves.   Agree it would be much easier if Capt required even though their will be folks who refuse.  We have flown three flights in the last two weeks and we wore our masks even though there were only a handful doing it.  You have to do what it takes to attempt to be Covid free.

Are you asking if the Capt can require masks for the entire cruise and in all areas? Yes. Are you asking if the Capt can require masks for just specific venues such as the theater? Yes.

 

What is ‘normally’ done when masks are mandated is the Capt requires masks in all inside venues except when you are actively drinking and eating, and you can take them off in your SR.

 

Or mask wearing is ‘encouraged’. 

 

Why you hear about a lot not wearing masks when ‘required’ is because they’ll sit at some table with a drink nearby, or just ignore the requirements because it’s impossible to enforce such things on those that insist on ignoring it.

 

There Is risk cruising. But all onboard have some level of vaccinated. Some will be infected and will be isolated; some will be infected and not realize it or hide it and infect all around them…..life in the 21st Century.

 

But since we go out to dinner and join friends here, I think a cruise is less risk then at home. The difference is If I got ill, my isolation would be in my own home.

I wish Celebrity (and all lines) would make an example of a few people violating this or other safety policies by putting them off at the next port on their own dime.   It wouldn't take many to "enforce" for the rest.  Certainly within their right per the contract.

I think this is a legitimate question, and the response to not cruise unhelpful.   When I cruised in October masks were required indoors, when there were very few reports of Covid on board or post-cruise. In February,  in the midst of the winter surge on land but not on board, the rule was masks in theater and casino only. Now large cruise ships of all lines clearly have a problem, but there's no required masking, ships are full and no more tests for back to back passengers.  You can ignore this and do your thing. Or you can try to understand what's going on here.  It doesn't make sense to me.
