Masks now June 22

Recommended Posts

On our May 28 Ecstasy cruise out of Mobile, masks were recommended but not required at embarkation.  Very few passengers were wearing them.  On board, masks were not required anywhere and just a few were wearing them.  In Cozumel and Costa Maya, masks were not required.  Debarkation no masks required.

Saw a very interesting exchange while on our latest Cruise. A man entered the elevator without his mask on. An older passenger kindly asked the gentleman to put on his mask. He said "I don't have one". The older passenger politely pulled one from her purse, told the man that it had never been worn and she handed it to him. He refused to put it on and the older passenger kindly asked him to please take the next elevator. The man was hesitant at first but then saw the stern look from her eyes and stepped off the elevator.

I also realize that this probably was not the norm and that most passengers would have not said a word. However the entire elevator clapped when the doors closed. Goes to show that we can still agree to disagree and there is always a viable and somewhat peaceful solution.

Two different people and this could have been the elevator fight from last week.

If it's voluntary, however, the other guests don't really have any right to make such a demand.

Sorry, I am very pro vaxx (first shot Feb 2021, four jabs total, no Covid yet for me) and was more than fine with masks while they were mandatory, but I am well aware there were literally millions of people who "had" to wear masks when they didn't agree, because it was the RULE / LAW.

And we pro-precautions people said, if you don't like it, don't cruise right now.

So now that the rule has been essentially eliminated, I have to be fair and turn that around and say, if you don't like that masks are not mandatory anymore, don't cruise right now.

I don't think it was okay for that lady to make the request at all, but I am glad she did so kindly. I wonder how well it worked out every other time she was on an elevator on your cruise.

Understood, I'm on the same ship as you !

I guess it is okay to ask someone in a tight space- no harm to ask. Not cool to demand or insist, however, if masks are not required.

Truthfully, we have taken 6 cruises since September, 2021 and masks were required in inside (and some outside) public areas for the first 5, and only suggested on our most recent cruise on April 30th.   Despite the requirement on the first 5 cruises, I routinely encountered folks in the elevator, theater and casino that simply refused to wear their masks.    I never said a word to any of them- even in the elevator.  I just didn't see the point because my opinion isn't changing anyone's mind.

Some of these were people I recognized or was acquainted with through social media groups.  More than a few of the people I recognized wound up ill at the end or immediately after our cruise.   The social media groups are just about the only way to know if people on your specific sailing turn up covid positive, because the cruise lines are not sharing that information.  Some people got ill that wore the masks religiously too- so there is just no guarantee.

Neither is there a guarantee the mask rules won't change mid cruise- or while you are in flight to your cruise.   ALL OF US are booking cruises knowing things could (and probably will) change.  Those of us unwilling to deal with rules we don't like should just wait to book until this is all over.   That means me (who hates masks but is fine with the rules requiring them) and the folks that won't wear masks.

I am so disgusted with all the bickering and arguing about whether we should or shouldn't and must or won't.   It seems there isn't any room for chair hog threads anymore and what is this board without complaints about chair hogs?  🤣   I am cruising and enjoying it.  Hope everyone else stays healthy enough to enjoy it too.

Blerk- I do agree with you some cruisers need to be fired.  There have always been some- before covid they were nuts about other things.  I bet it is the same basic group of people.

Well because of Covid the ships aren’t full enough for the chair hogs to be a problem.  There’s always an open lounger somewhere.

Still we need to get back to the elegant night attire arguments, the prepaid gratuity arguments, the cutbacks arguments, and yes, chair hogs.

And we’ve done 4 cruises since last August with varying maskery. But I don’t wear it if I don’t have to.

I agree.

However I wish Carnival would designate one elevator MASKS ONLY.

Wonder if that would work.

no, mask are  thing of the past and hope they stay that way. I do have ideas that I'll have to eat those words before covid is said and done.

Just got back this morning from the Sunshine and never had to wear a mask once.

Boarding without mask now, well it's beyond our concerns then.

We take the at home free test before going to Walgreens for the test. This way we have some assurance we will pass. As for covid19 spreading fast on the cruise ships. I personally have not heard that anywhere other then on CC.
