Out of Iowa Posted June 21, 2022 #26 Share Posted June 21, 2022 If they removed the statue, they could use the 2,000+ lbs that it weighs to add more of those lovely, tiled and heated loungers in the spa. With this choice, the ship's weight wouldn't change but the beauty and utility would be improved.

This is the new Carnival, if they removed the statue they could easily put at least one or two staterooms there. I get the sense that Carnival isn't going for a Sunshine-level transformation here. So I expect they don't want to go through the ordeal of cutting a hole in the side of the ship to remove this figure.
tidecat Posted June 21, 2022 #28 Share Posted June 21, 2022 There's already a bar in Luminosa's atrium, so the key revenue producer is there. The older ships originally didn't have the bar, so their statues had to go.

The sculpture might be worth more than the ship.

Sailor75 Posted June 22, 2022 #31 Share Posted June 22, 2022 (edited) I read today two more Costa ships are being transferred to Carnival. Firenze and Venezia. Wonder what's up with Costa? Business not good? Edited June 22, 2022 by Sailor75

Wonder what's up with Costa? Business not good? It's actually China that is the issue. Firenze and Venezia were intended to serve the Chinese market for Costa, but have temporarily been deployed in Europe. The European side of Costa picked up two XL class ships since 2019 (Smeralda and Toscana), which represents around 10,500 more lower berths. The ships that exited (Victoria, neoRomantica, Atlantica, Mediterranea, and Luminosa) combined actually have similar capacity to the two XLs.
Indytraveler83 Posted June 22, 2022 #33 Share Posted June 22, 2022 I wonder if this ship will also get branded "Costa by Carnival" instead of a full Carnival revamp?
CarnivalShips480 Posted July 1, 2022 Author #34 Share Posted July 1, 2022 (edited) Luminosa will get the full Carnival transformation unlike Costa Venezia and Costa Firenze. Edited July 1, 2022 by CarnivalShips480
CarnivalShips480 Posted July 6, 2022 Author #35 Share Posted July 6, 2022 Rendering of Carnival Luminosa and news sign up: https://www.carnival.com/cruise-ships/carnival-luminosa.aspx?icid=icp_explr_shp_luminosa_07062022 Interesting they just repainted the funnel and will not have blue hull livery yet. I guess that is what not getting all the fun ship stuff means.
Rare Saint Greg Posted July 6, 2022 #36 Share Posted July 6, 2022 They should send it to the same ports as Carnival Freedom so neither of them feel self-conscious.
CarnivalShips480 Posted July 6, 2022 Author #37 Share Posted July 6, 2022 Unfortunately, they are in separate cruise regions divided by continents and oceans
mz-s Posted July 6, 2022 #38 Share Posted July 6, 2022 It's not getting the funnel, is it at least going to get Guy's Burgers?

Anyone know when she has a scheduled dry dock or when her last was?
CarnivalShips480 Posted July 6, 2022 Author #40 Share Posted July 6, 2022 According to Cruisemapper, Luminosa had it's last dry dock in 2017 and think the next one is said to be this year, but they might have put it there when the Carnival transfer was announced.
