Spanieleyes Posted June 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2022 We are currently on our first cruise with HAL, but have previously cruised with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Princess. After registering our credit card against our onboard account, HAL have done a preauthorisation in excess of $750 on our 2nd day of a 7 day cruise. Our current onboard account stands at only -$30. All the previous cruises we have done have done a daily authorisation of whatever our account stood at, at the end of each day. Can I ask regular HAL cruisers, does this sounds normal please? Thanks for any guidance.
Rare Hlitner Posted June 20, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2022 It is normal. HAL puts a $60 Per person/day credit card hold on cruises up to 25 days long. Beyond that I believe it drops to $30 per person/day. On our voyages it was generally assessed at the beginning of the cruise (or within a day). Keep in mind it is just a "credit hold" and not actually a charge to your account. Hank
Rare Cruise Junky Posted June 20, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2022 Always do it and have done for years. The hold will just drop off if not used.
Rare *Miss G* Posted June 20, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2022 The first time I ever saw this pending charge, I called my bank in a panic because it was only weeks since I’d experienced a credit card theft. They told me it was just a hold and it would drop off after a couple of days if no purchases were made. I no longer panic when/if I see it. 😂
Rare zgscl Posted June 21, 2022 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2022 Very normal. It will clear a few days after disembarkation. Just disappears like magic.
Spanieleyes Posted June 21, 2022 Author #6 Share Posted June 21, 2022 Thanks for all your replies, and good to know it’s ok. Also interesting how different cruise companies do things in different ways. Thanks again 😁.
Rare VMax1700 Posted June 21, 2022 #7 Share Posted June 21, 2022 As others have said it is normal for the pre authorisation of $60 per person per day. One other detail is, if your onboard account exceeds the amount of the pre authorisation, then they will 'charge' that amount to your card and pre authorise a further $60 per person per day for the remainder of the cruise.
