Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 30, 2022 Author #551 Share Posted June 30, 2022 But wait! On a whim, I did some googling and we found a site that lets you book day rooms in various hotels. Found an little Inn very close to Oakland airport, 10-4 access, TOTALLY WORTH IT. Apparently this site was a shark tank deal. Look, I don’t care if they think B is a hooker and I’m a John - WORTH IT. I’VE BEEN CALLED WORSE. 1

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 30, 2022 Author #554 Share Posted June 30, 2022 Most amazing debark ever. We left the room and headed to Bacchus around 7:30 (they said Dia/Plat debark with carry off should start at 7:45) and we literally never sat down. By the time we got there, “they already called all platinums”…. So this is us walking off without ever sitting down… at 7:38am. Incredible.
Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 30, 2022 Author #555 Share Posted June 30, 2022 Now to sit and wait on our Uber. Only 11 minutes. Not bad considering the crowd and parade closures starting up. Plus, hard to imagine better weather to wait outside in.
Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 30, 2022 Author #556 Share Posted June 30, 2022 Luckily our driver was a super nice guy. He had to do some WORK to get us out of San Francisco and to the bay bridge. We could already see people in Warriors gear everywhere milling about downtown. He got creative, finally got us out after some unanticipated sightseeing, and we got to our destination right around check in time.

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 30, 2022 Author #558 Share Posted June 30, 2022 This place is completely frozen in time. Like, think late 80’s maybe. It may be kinda old, but I also think I kinda dig the vibe! Super clean, nice nice nice ladies working the front, and they let us hit the free breakfast before checking in. Right on the bay too.

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 30, 2022 Author #561 Share Posted June 30, 2022 At the end of the day, this last minute blind day room was one of the best decisions we made the entire trip. We got to take a fat nap, shower, rest up, watch some TV, order some lunch in from a nearby taqueria…. About MILES better than being stuck in an airport all day. oh, and travel tips 101: always eat the menu item labeled “XXX HOT” the day of your flight. What could go wrong? #diabla

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 30, 2022 Author #563 Share Posted June 30, 2022 Don’t you tell me what to do made it to the gate. Stayed at the hotel til the last minute at 4, slept off that burrito a bit, now we’re refreshed, rested, and good to go.
Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 30, 2022 Author #564 Share Posted June 30, 2022 So B made a good point that we should probably eat something now lest we be ravenous when we land at home close to midnight… she decided on a Subway we’d passed a few gates back, but let’s just say the line was problematic… amazingly, the location was on the app, I did an online order thinking it was kind of a long shot, and five minutes later I’m strolling back to the gate. I kinda felt like a jerk and a super hero all at once…. The duality of man..

Rare TxTeach79 Posted June 30, 2022 Author #568 Share Posted June 30, 2022 Well, this was just a fantastic trip. I couldn’t recommend it more. We did the math, since I was a kid I’ve been on 49 cruises, 29 on Carnival, and this one ranks right at the top somewhere. Amazing crew, a happy ship that’s so well designed and easy to navigate (and handles crowds better than any I’ve sailed before), and my God - Alaska. Beautiful hardly does it justice. Thanks for following along! I hope this mess was enjoyable/helpful in some way! I’m going solo on the MG in November and am playing with doing a live TR then. We’ll see. After that, B and I are right back on the MG over the holidays, and we’re eyeballing a Pride 12 night in Europe next summer. Can’t wait for all it! 15
urbanhawk Posted June 30, 2022 #569 Share Posted June 30, 2022 The only disappointment about this review is that it's ending! I've been following along since day one. I've totally enjoyed it.. (I can honestly say, I've never met a giddy cubano!!!!!)) I love the spirit class-I've been on the Miracle I believe 3 times, and on the Legend, and the Spirit. Happy travels and cruising! (and a hi to b ).. 1

So I am curious on the Cheers vs non cheers method on the Alaskan cruise. We have opted with non cheers since it is Alaska but wondered how the cost comparison worked out for you? We are "moderate" drinkers and plan on bringing wine on board with us as well. Great review - makes us ready to see Alaska again!
TravelGirlinDallas Posted June 30, 2022 #573 Share Posted June 30, 2022 Great review!! Really enjoyed following along. So I guess you were able to escape the ever-present Covid? We are sailing next month and I'm a little worried about that part. Not so much worried about the illness (I've already had it), just concerned about avoiding all of the unpleasant travel consequences.
rwest898 Posted June 30, 2022 #574 Share Posted June 30, 2022 I enjoyed your review and sorry it's ending. I grew up in the bay area so it was nice seeing how much it has changed. Looking forward to your next review!
Rare EllieinNJ Posted June 30, 2022 #575 Share Posted June 30, 2022 Really enjoyed your review. I am somewhat new to Carnival only having done one cruise on the Legend. We have booked the Pride next May/June for b2b, 12 day then 9 day. If these are the dates you're looking at hope to meet you and B.
