QM 2 new mask requirements

That is a CDC requirement for ships that are experiencing COVID cases, it happened in the past. More info are on the CDC website. By the title of your post you look concerned about mask wearing. I personally don’t see the big issue, just wear a mask.

Didn’t pay over 12K to wear a mask on a cruise ship.

Well, I'm very pleased by this news, not having paid quite a lot of money to have my unmasked fellow passengers sneezing over me. Definitely reassuring news.

Obviously your not sailing this cruise. First all passengers must be fully vaccinated to board. In addition each passenger must test 24 hours prior to boarding. It’s not your fellow passengers you should be concerned with but the crew.

Unfortunately we have several reports on this board of people with Covid on Cunard ships, including one who developed symptoms within hours of boarding.

If you decide to travel during a pandemic you have to accept that things will change and additional precautions might be necessary.

Not this one, her next Southampton departure.

Why the crew? They are fully vaccinated, frequently tested, and assiduous in their mask wearing.

I am glad you paid 12K for your cruise. I am sure you know the amount of money you pay for a cruise won’t make any difference in term of public health precautions.
I am also sure you saw the option to cancel the journey right at the bottom of the email.

Hope you can enjoy the cruise despite having to wear mask with such short notice and safe travels!

Sorry but it is not just the crew you can blame. There is every chance that some customers could be in the early stages of Covid and still pass a LFT and then get onboard and Covid will rear its ugly head  and spread like wildfire like it did on our Emerald Princess cruise earlier this month.

Yeah but to be fair to the OP it's difficult to cancel last minute. Cunard should either stop QM2 sailing and clear out the current covid or give everyone presently booked opportunity to cancel.

How do you suggest they clear out the current Covid ? It's brought on board by passengers every sailing

Do any of the folks quarantined stay aboard? I wonder how many crew have it? Last time aboard I know several did. Are we not boarding a ship that is rife with Covid?  I thought QM2 was not like other ships(like Disney here in Florida)  that sail pretty much a closed loop and everyone gets off but QM2 always has folks on? Hence Covid is always on board before we get on. If that is not so please excuse my ignorance. I still think due to the continued Covid problems on board we should be allowed to opt out before the last minute.

By the way you do a great job. 🙂

There must be plenty of other ships operating to or from the US east coast with a similar requirement.  I'm sure someone out there has a list.

With the way things change it would probably be a full time job keeping a list up to date !

We are boarding tomorrow in Southampton and not particularly happy about new directive about mask wearing but best to be as safe as possible.  We didn’t consider cancelling/moving on with FCC because it might be the same next time.  This is our 50th voyage on Cunard so didn’t want it kicked into the long grass!  It’ll be interesting to see whether the number of passengers is down!

Have a good one. Can you keep us informed as you sail

Covid does not care how rich you are, sorry. It's a democratic disease;-)

I just came home from a QM2 cruise, spending 7 days in "splendid isolation". There weren't many cases on board as much as I could figure. When leaving, about half a dozen were escorted from the ship by medical staff. I spoke to only one other passenger affected, he caught Covid on the TA before our cruise and was isolated on the same day as me. The Covid- station on QM2 is on deck 5 forward (sheltered balcony).

Honestly, in these times, don’t travel if you can’t adapt. January 2020 we were in Vietnam when Covid was first identified on the first week of a three week trip.

we have traveled quite a bit and its been a lot at times getting the right tests the right number of hours before arrival in Kenya, for example, then paying nearly $300 to get tested in the bush on the way home. My daughter spent Christmas by herself in isolation in Cancun. I just got Covid on a trip to Florida.

you do what you need to do. When we go to the theater in NYC we wear masks, if needed, even if the tickets were thousands of dollars (Hugh Jackman in Music Man). I didn’t resell my tickets.

I will get boosted again before my November cruise and follow whatever the rules happen to be at the time.

is it that hard to be considerate to other people ?

Absolutely considerate to other people that's why I follow all the rules.
