Platinum/elite internet question

Can the 50% off internet that comes with being platinum/elite be purchased onboard? Or is the deal only available if purchased in advance? We have a bunch of OBC to use this time around so would prefer to use it to purchase.

Never even enquired because having Princess Plus we already had included internet. Another Elite benefit that is now useless unless you dont have Princess Plus and even then it is poorer because you now have to pay for something that was free before.

My understanding is yes you still receive 50% discount if you wait to purchase on board but the rates are higher. I seem to recall the daily rate being $15/day so your discounted rate is $7.50 /day instead of $5/day if you buy for the whole voyage.

I suggest you buy before sailing and can cash out your OBC, see other threads on how to do in the casino, unless you will only want to purchase only one or 2 days max, which I believe is $20/day so with your discount it would be $10/day, this is when you are not purchasing for the entire voyage but one day at a time.

I agree, this is the way it is done.

However, some report that on the first day of the cruise you can still purchase it at the pre-cruise rate so you would be doing it for $5/day if this is the case on your cruise.

I am Elite and have paid for princess plus - how do I get the 50% discount?

You cannot internet is part of Princess Plus and you only get 50% discount on separate packages purchased. Therefore if you purchase Princess Plus it is another Elite benefit that is lost.

Thanks - I think I will need to take my loyalty elsewhere!

I purchased the internet package onboard, from the Princess rep in the Internet Cafe, and reeceived 50% off automatically for being elite.  It was paid out of OBC.

Did you get 50% off of the onboard price, or 50% off of the discounted pre-cruise rate?  In February, I got 50% off of the pre-cruise rate when I asked the internet manager.  Not sure if this was a one time goodwill gesture or if this is normal practice.  I guess I will find out on Saturday.

My Princess cvp said it can be purchased onboard. The price for non platinum & elite is $10 per day for 1 device, $5 per day for platinum & elite. I only buy for my 1 device, so I don't prices for more devices. Our obc will go for gratuities so I pre purchased through my medallion app.

no need to buy internet packages with having Princess Plus so my Elite Loyalty benefits get less and less that they are virtually useless now.

I think I am going to see if, as an Elite, I can get my flip-flops polished for free.

We have the Princess Standard (value) package for our upcoming October cruise.  I purchased the internet discount at 50% -- pre cruise.  The charge hit my credit card which is no problem.  Why can’t I find this (purchase) on my Personalized Summary?  John

Why would you expect to get a discount on something that is baked into your cruise fare?

Of note is on some voyages where members here on CC have reported getting OBC rebates due to poor or non-existent internet, they received full credit of $10/day when on PLUS package, so that seems extra good if would have only paid $5 due to benefit.

You probably won't agree, but I have to disagree with your assertion.  The old internet was slower (ignoring the current speed issues) in general, plus there were limited minutes and many guests had issues with losing time and had to ask for compensation, etc.  The new internet is unlimited, so I think getting 50% off unlimited internet is better than getting some free minutes.  It is not a loss and different guests may think the old few minutes were okay if they hardly used it, while other guests are going to be happy with the unlimited as they don't run out and have to buy additional.  It is not an absolute loss of a benefit at all.

It should show up in the Travel Summary, but I am reading in past posts, this doesn't happen.  I am not even sure that MC App reflects already purchased.  You would THINK that MC App would indicate already purchased if you were in there an tapped on MedallionNet Internet option.

I would save off the screenshot when you ordered it, and also a copy of credit card statement with the charge showing from Princess.

Those are not the on-board prices.  The single device price on-board is $15/day (less 50% if eligible).  Now, they may still be offering the pre-cruise price of $10/day on Day 1 (embarkation), but I wouldn't count on it for sure since part of the reason for that was the fact that MC App was not recognizing CC Member Level and apply the 50% discount.  That has been fixed for some time now.

I know I will be pre-purchasing it closer to our sail date as I am not taking chance the pre-cruise offer will still be there.

As I mentioned above, Princess had been offering the pre-cruise rate on Day 1 due to difficulties in booking the internet in MC App and that it wasn't applying the discount.  I hope you will report back here and let us know the ship and if you were still offered the pre-cruise rate on embarkation day.

Pre-cruise prices on day 1 is  what we experienced a few month's ago.  I will let you know what happens on our next trip in a few days.  It is not a big deal for our short upcoming cruise, but it will make a bigger difference for a future 28 day voyage where we will have oodles of OBCs.  Unlike many of the posters on this thread, we don't get Princess Plus as it is not a good value for us.
