This is a popular cruise that sells out quickly and it was maybe the only one that didn’t have a special promotion. The only thing that did happen is that fares went up the month after we booked.

We will be on the iconic Mediterranean cruise this December.  Is it better to book a future cruise on board? Any extra specials for end of year? We are looking at panama canal and Alaskan cruises for 2025.

The biggest advantage to booking onboard is the OBC you get on the current cruise, a future OBC, a discount,  and the deferred 6 month payment in full. The current cruise OBC should be close to covering the gratuities, which is why it’s a good idea never to pre pay those. Since you already have a cruise booked, any new booking is eligible for a 6 month PIF (be sure to ask for it), so this no additional benefit to you.

 
Recently Viking has started offering Future Guest promotions (for people with a future cruise booked) which essentially gives a similar discount to what you might get by booking onboard. They may send a letter or contact you by phone to make a pitch. 

 

The real issue is if you want to wait until December to book an Alaska cruise for the summer. Your preferred room class/location might not be available. Also, if you are looking at taking a Viking extension, it might be filled up. IMO if you find a good promotion before December, use it. Otherwise you might want to inquire about a Future Guest promotion with a Viking TA.

If there are specials at year’s end, they will probably be released in January, not December. There should be a 2027 schedule release around November.

Thanks so much for the info. We haven't pre paid gratuities so any additional OBC we would have for that. I will keep watching for any new promotions for us.  Happy cruising to all.

Has anyone experienced the 33 day Grand Hawaii and Polynesia cruise?

My longest trip has been a Transatlantic. And I might be going solo since it is quite a long one for those that are still working.

This week we received a Future Guest promotion letter in the mail. We have an October 2024 cruise and will likely wait until onboard before considering any additional bookings for two reasons. One, we haven’t sailed with Viking since 2019 (though we had 2020 and 2021that were cancelled) and want to evaluate the brand before committing to future cruises, though the $25 pp deposit is attractive as a placeholder. Two, our letter offer required PIF by October 31, 2024 for a 14 nights itinerary in 2025.

Can you use the "special future guest promotion" two months in a row? Can you use it even if you didn't get the letter in the mail that month? Sorry if this has been asked already, but 75 pages is a lot to read through!

I wish there was one for British Isles Explorer for next year but it's kind of moot because we really wanted to add the London Extension and they are sold out.  It must be a very popular cruise.

London is one of the easiest cities to do on your own. Easy access by air from anywhere and great public transit. Any extension there is too short. Go for a minimum of 5 days.
