Wow only one mile? It felt like 500 when I was walking with my suitcase the morning of July 22 to catch a train so we would not miss our pre-paid Buckingham Palace tour scheduled for late afternoon in London. Town of Dover was at a standstill that morning. A couple buses even drove on wrong side of highways just to reach the port.

33 nights onboard the Pride and I don’t really have a single complaint about shape of ship or the crew however tendering to ports was (to be polite) “disorganized”.  It was enough to make me not return for an additional 40 nights through September when opportunity presented itself theough casino offers. I love Carnival for their prices however I can totally see how others might be disappointed if they paid good money to be there.

Sure, great.  I am 53 years old and I never in my life been "screamed at" by an employee of anything,  anywhere, anytime.  Nevermind 2 completely separate employees within a day. But whatever. Your mileage may vary I guess.

And there it is.

"It hasn't happened to me, therefore it hasn't ever happened to anyone."

Nice bubble, do they serve cookies there?

Personally, I have had employees yell at me for doing absolutely nothing wrong.  Oddly enough, employees can get stressed, or are jerks, or are having a mid-life crisis, or whatever, and take it out on the people around them.  Because, for example, we also never hear about daycare workers who physically abuse the kids in their care when Something Goes Wrong, right?

So I believe the OP.  It is more than plausible.

Is there always a lack of taxis at Dover Priory, we are travelling from Swansea to Dover on the 2nd for the Rome sailing. We are cutting it a little fine time wise and getting worried.

Do you know when embarking in Dover could you carry liquor on with you? I have heard reports you could carry a bottle of vodka or whiskey right on during this time.

I carried on a bottle of wine.  They didn't even look.  It could have been whiskey - they wouldn't have known (if they cared).

Can't speak for the Carnival Pride sailing in Europe but it was one of our favorite ships when it sailed from Baltimore USA!

Mine too! I sail RCI now but if The Pride was back in Baltimore, I’d be on her.

I  believe that was an exception on July 25th,  the day of the channel chaos and the first day of the schools summer break.  Roads to Dover were gridlocked and taxis coudn't get to the station.

We were on this cruise as well. We carried on a bottle of prosecco, Fireball, and cans of Coke. No one checked a thing.

Pictures reminded me of the road leading to Galveston.

On a b2b2b on Carnival Splendor a few years back, I debarked the ship, walked into town until I found a liquor store, bought a bottle of scotch, walked back to the ship, and took the bottle straight to my cabin. No problem.

Perfect, that makes things nice being able to carry a bottle on with you.

We travelled from London to Dover Priory on Friday 10th June for a cruise to Norway. There were 5 taxis waiting at the train station when we stepped off the train. A five minute drive to the cruise terminal, 10 minutes to complete embarkation, easy peasy.

Same again getting off in Dover, no issues. Maybe we were lucky or others recently have been unlucky.

You weren't lucky, per se, you took a cruise that departed before the little spat with France and while school was still in, from what I can tell.  So there was no huge traffic jam of chaos.

Did you return to London by train from Dover Priory as well?  If so, what time were you off the ship and which train did you take?  I'm trying to figure out if I should book the 9:49 non-stop to St. Pancras, or play it safe and book the 10:49 train instead.  Thanks.

Hi pkster

Yes we returned to London by train after the cruise. We booked the train tickets with Southeastern from Dover Priory to London Victoria. The train departed Dover at 08:45 which gave us plenty of time to get from the ship to the train station. I think we were arrived at Dover Priory before 08:00. We choose London Victoria to arrive in to as it's where we would catch the Gatwick Express train to the airport.

We choose one of the last groups to debark the ship, we were group 21 out of 22 groups. I think people started leaving the ship at around 05:30 and everyone was due off before 08:00.

Dover port in June is very different to Dover port in late July and August. Much less busy.

Also....side note on UK taxis....we had a fare hike nationally on the 1st of August.

Which is less busy?  July and August?  Why is that?

How long from there to airport (Heathrow)?
