And, you would be the one causing every cabin around you to call guest services and complain that their cabin is hot.  Yes, opening the balcony door does shut off one AC system, the one that merely recirculates your cabin air (like a window AC at home).  However, you have just unbalanced the fresh air supply AC system, that is not shut off when the door is open, and your cabin gets more fresh, cool air, as the system tries to rebuild the overpressure in your cabin (it can't overcome the huge opening that is the balcony door)(the overpressure is to keep smoke from entering your cabin from the passageway), and everyone else in the block of cabins (typically everyone on your deck between the fire doors, so 40-50 cabins) gets less cool air.

That makes sense...except im not the only balcony cabin doing it.  those all around me are too. or if they are not, they are up on deck because we are cruising through glacier bay...so, until they install speakers on the balcony so I can hear the rangers.  Or turn the balcony doors into floor to ceiling windows that dont open forcing me to the public areas...Apologies for screwing up the AC system to my former and future fellow cruisers. 🤪

In four cruises, I've eaten at the buffet once. I just don't get why you'd choose a buffet over a sit-down restaurant when both are free and both are all you can eat.

We like the buffet because we an eat small portions of things we like ... or large portions of things we REALLY like.  We loathe sitting around for two hours having dinner.  We like an early meal.  The cost and the amount of food have nothing to do with this preference.  A couple of nights we'll 'dress for dinner' and visit the MDR.  Then it's special, not just an 'every-night' routine.

Actually, the thing I hate the most is when staff start singing to people in the restaurants. I’ve cruised on my birthday and anniversaries and we always make sure that we keep it quiet in case they start singing at us. Makes me cringe just thinking about it.

On our last cruise (our 25th anniversary) my wife let it slip just before we left Cagneys (she thought we were safe at that point). The maitre d told us to wait so she could do something for us. We had to get quite insistent that we really just wanted to go. 🙂

Oh dear, my TA wanted to know the dates of my birthday and our anniversary (the BIG 5-0) and I didn't even think about the foolish singing and fuss.  Both fall within our Christmas cruise.  A small cake or cupcake with a candle would be perfect to commemorate the occasion.  Champagne and strawberries in the cabin would be even better.  The rest is just embarrassing for anyone over the age of 12.

I love the buffet, would eat there all the time if I could.  Don't mind the MDR, but I prefer the options in the buffet.

Alas, I am married and I no longer have this choice.  😆

I might have arranged a cruise or two that didn't quite fall exactly on our anniversary or birthday, and so I, um...may have moved the occasion  over by a couple days just to make the waiters in the MDR all embarrass the DW.   I'm not saying I did, not saying I didn't.

I just find penny slots a little brainless, and how do you comp free cruises with it?   After all, besides that you're not wagering much, how can you beat the house by pulling a slot on a computerized machine, which the casino controls the random seed?   Granted, sometimes on vacation you just want to turn off your brain for awhile, but....

Some folks just don't get it.  That's okay. 😎

This. I remember coming to CC before my first-ever cruise. I had no idea what the Haven even was. But I'll never forget a Haven-related thread I clicked on and the very first post I read was someone deeply concerned that she'd have to see the "regular passengers." "Just how long from arriving at the pier do we have to mingle with the 'non-Haven class'" she lamented. "Isn't EVERYTHING separate for us?"

All I could think of was Rose's mother in Titanic - the ship is sinking, and she's approaching a lifeboat - "Will we be seated according to class?"

Yikes. Not all, I'm sure. But enough.

I know!  It only takes a couple of encounters with people like that to make you swear to never, ever have any contact with them.  Even without the segregation of The Haven, you can pick them out by the way they treat the crew.  I prefer people who don't even know what a class system IS.

We play because we enjoy it, and yeah you can lose plenty I am sure, trick is to know when to walk away. We walk away if we are not gaining.

This ^^^^ is a concept that people who are fighting over "the math" and casino conspiracy theories just can't seem to comprehend.  It's not that we have figured out some secret winning streak prediction theory to beat the odds and defy "the math."  We just walk away when we've hit the break-even point.  I've been on 10-day cruises where I only played the first three nights because the slots were terrible and I played out my budget.

And as for the question about how casinos make money when they give away comps to people who arent losing? Sadly, from the people who can't walk away.  Which is why if you are one of those people you just shouldn't play at all.

As any person who is being honest with themselves should know, your break-even point is the moment right before you first start playing.

It's clear you are triggered by gambling for whatever reason, so it's probably healthy for you to ignore the gambling discussion.  Your projections about people that play and get comps really just sound like sour grapes at this point. (Btw, booked a 10-day to Turks & Caicos out of NYC today on that offer I received in email yesterday- yay me!👍🏻)

I think that this is the same poster who started going on about gambling in a discussion about whether free at sea plus was worth it. If so they do seem to have a particular interest in the subject.

I am not interested in having three sit down meals in a day. For dinner we almost always eat in a restaurant, and like to have a relaxing breakfast, but for lunch I much prefer a snack, so it is o’Sheehans or the buffet for us.

The buffet is perfect for that.

I have no problem with doing the muster drill, but I wish they could find a way of making sure that everyone gets there on time. At a point you just want to get on with your holiday there is nothing more frustrating than seeing people strolling in twenty minutes after tmot should have started.

I’m not sure what the solution is. Maybe sending a small electric charge through all the hot tubs 5 minutes before muster would get some of the people moving. 🙂

There are just a certain percentage of people that regardless of what you do, just won’t do it which boggles my mind b/c you more than likely walked RIGHT past your muster station the second you walk on the ship…just let the poor folks scan your damn cruise card and get on with your day.  Like even if NCL was handing out free champagne at the muster point for checking in I still think they would not bother to go till hunted down by staff.  Boggles my mind.

My more recent experience has been that the waiter or someone will confirm that you are celebrating something before they bring anything out.  It is at that point you can simply ask them not to make any fuss.
