brigand13 Posted August 29, 2022 #152 Share Posted August 29, 2022 I love this change and I love that it sounds like the Prima (which I'm sailing on at the end of October) will have Coke. I drink either Coke Zero or Diet Dr Pepper pretty exclusively. Now, NCL just needs to get some Freestyle machines and we're REALLY in business!! 😄 My husband does sugar-free and caffeine free which in many places means his drink options are water or water. 😛 So the Freestyle machines make a big difference for him.
deliver42 Posted August 29, 2022 #153 Share Posted August 29, 2022 I would think they will eventually have the freestyle machines as coke goes more fleetwide.

Fingers crossed that you are correct. I have NCL cruises booked for next year and the year after as well. It would be awesome to see them implement a refillable mug option like RCCL and some theme parks offer. 😄

We were on the Breakaway last week and all of the bar soda guns had been replaced with red Coke guns with the Coke logo. I also noticed the careful product placement during the Prima christening ceremony with the Coke logo predominantly displayed.

Many options there: water from a tap, water in a can, water in a bottle, flavored water, well water, spring water...
complawyer Posted August 30, 2022 #157 Share Posted August 30, 2022 oh! the horror, the horror! coke instead of pepsi. this just increased my scotch consumption by 500% 1
UKstages Posted August 30, 2022 #158 Share Posted August 30, 2022 vastly prefer diet coke over diet pepsi. not a fan of coke zero at all. on that front, i have met a surprisingly large number of people who enjoy coke zero who insist that it has no caffeine. that is, of course, incorrect. the "zero" refers to "zero sugar," although it originally referred to its lack of calories. it is a caffeinated soda, for sure, and yet - when talking with food and beverage professionals and asking them about their offering of caffeine-free beverages, they often proudly point to "coke zero" when they explain they have no need to offer "caffeine free diet coke."

If you don't enjoy scotch without a cola, perhaps you should try a better scotch... Just saying. A really nice scotch is its own reward. However, I hope you enjoy whatever makes your cruise more enjoyable.
complawyer Posted August 30, 2022 #161 Share Posted August 30, 2022 fyi, just to clarify, i usually drink 4 or more pepsi's per day, and may have a scotch prior to lunch ,one prior to dinner, especially if i'm eating in one of the specialty restaurants, and a couple if i'm in the casino. i was merely implying that taking away my daily fix of pepsi, it would probably up my scotch intake. sometimes i'll pass on the scotch, but never on the pepsi. as some people are addicted to coffee, and cant get their motor running without a cup or 2 in the morning, same with me only pepsi instead. yes, i drink coke, but much prefer pepsi-cola

I was thinking of the original as being offered in our lifetimes. I remember my trips to Mexico during the 60's and 70's and going to the agenceas to buy it by the case. Today, you can still get that original, bottled cases at Sam's Club. I also read where you can buy kosher coke during Passover. It has a yellow bottle cap on it. No chemicals, additives, etc. Sadly, I couldn't find it anywhere in the area where I live. Has anyone else seen it where you live? Yes, we can get Kosher for Passover Coke here locally. My wife is Jewish and buys it for Passover every year.

Like you, I used to think Scotch was awful and then I had a friend introduce me to high end Scotch. Those are a whole different world from that Cutty Sark stuff my father drank. Tequila is the same way. Most of it tastes like gasoline to me. Then I had a guy in Cozumel introduce me to "real" Tequila (his words). Stuff was actually drinkable. Also like $100+/bottle and no I didn't buy any.

I hated it until someone insisted I try an expensive scotch (an older Glenfiddich, IIRC), and it changed my mind.

He's an Oban drinker, keeps pouring me one hoping I'll eventually like it. (Secretly, I think he just does that so he can get a double as I wont touch it). Then again, I don't like whiskey either unless it's mixed with something, then it's only palatable to consume. I'll stick to good Gin and Tequila, thanks.

Thank you for clarifying. I believe that a single malt, or small batch discovery can be life changing. It doesn't have to be overly expensive, but certainly not your typical well variety. In the past few years I have even ventured into Japanese distilleries that were shockingly pleasing. Best wishes to all who discover what works best for them... Freestyle machines have it. Was on the Jewel this past May and was frustrated that Mt Dew was not offered anywhere on the ship.
