Puerta Vallarta and Mazatlan - tender Ports?

Are these 2 ports tender or dock ports? TIA

ANY port can be a tender port, if the number of ships present exceeds the dock space. This used to be the case in PV, but I think the dock space is now different. 

 

Very likely you will dock in both ports.

We actually had to tender in PV a couple of years ago because all the berths were occupied . I believe we were the smallest ship in port that day so having the fewest passengers to disembark we were assigned to anchor while the other ships docked.

Are ships cancelling ports in Mexico due to all the cartel violence. I received notice from STEP not to travel to Mexico.

We are scheduled in Oct to cruise several ports in Baja area.

There aren't many ships sailing to Mexico right now...the numbers will increase significantly starting in early October. 

 

I haven't heard of any ship cancelations to Mexico.

Puerto Vallarta's port can handle 3 cruise ships.   On the rare day when there are 4 or more than some ships do need to drop anchor and tender.

I won't dispute people who say that they had to tender at PV.  However, in over a dozen Mex Riv cruises, I have never had to tender at either PV or Mazatlan.

If you want to see what other ships may be in port when you are there check cruisetimetables.com for the days you will be there.  Unless there are a large number of ships in port it is unlikely you would need to tender at either of these ports.
