zalusky Posted September 1, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 1, 2022 American Express had an offer this period that if you spend $800 on Oceania they will give you $250 credit. You have to do it by Sep 26. So I had our TA prepay our Gratuities

Firstin87 Posted October 2, 2022 #5 Share Posted October 2, 2022 We will be cruising for the time on Oceania in March and will have the $300 OBC from AmEx Platinum card. I read on another site that it cannot "be used for gratuities". Does that mean it cannot be applied to the $23 per person per day gratuity we are charged for our suite? Or does that refer to using it as a tip? Thanks, Cyndy

They do it purposely. OBC/ SBC can be used to pay for any and all expenditures made aboard ship. This includes Gratuity and has been posted repeatedly on this board. I'm not so sure if it's people blatantly lying or that there are a lot of people that just simply get stuff wrong. I see it all the time on cruise critic, especially a couple of other boards I check out.
Firstin87 Posted October 2, 2022 #9 Share Posted October 2, 2022 I got my information off of AmEx's site and I am probably reading too much into the word "gratuity". In my experience, Oceania is the only line I've cruised on that calls the daily fee a "gratuity"; NCL calls it a Daily Service Charge, Princess calls it something similar. Since no one has experienced a problem with this, I'm sure it's just me worrying about nothing.

I think the difference between NCL & Oceania is that you can adjust or remove the "Gratuity" if you choose to but the "Service Fee" you need a really good reason to remove it One is mandatory the other is not Just my take on it
