Does anyone know what time of the day the 45 day check in time starts?

It opens midnight local time of the departure port city.

But don’t give up if it’s not right at midnight. My last one opened up at 12:03am.

Yes, mine didn't open until sometime after 12:10am.  I'm in CDT and the port is EDT and I usually stay up until 11pm anyhow, so I started checking.  I have checked every few minutes up until 12:10am EDT when I decided to turn in, but check once more and it was open.  People on my cruise reported still being able to get a 10:30am arrival time at 8am EDT.

The earliest pier check in times, though most reporting suggests you can get the same times the following morning.

I believe you get to board the ship sooner and start using some of the amenities.

Most people will say you get to board the ship earlier, which I wouldn’t disagree with. But I prefer a check-in time around 12 PM. I have had several earlier check-in times this year, but we always ended up sitting in the terminal for awhile before boarding the ship. But on cruises this year when I had a check-in time of 12 PM or 12:30 PM, we literally never stopped walking for more than a few minutes from the time we left the car at the port parking garage until we were on the ship.

My experience with cruises in general is as long as you check in morning of when check in time starts you should get an early check in time.

On thing to consider about arrival/boarding time: If you want to eat lunch in the specialty restaurants, they may close (or stop seating) at 1:30, so if you are later boarding, you may not get to do that.

And the earlier you board the better your chances of getting your preferred show and dining reservations, if that matters to you.
