Hobbitron tour

We will be on the Viking Orion in February 2023. We would like a small group tour of Hobbitron. It can be out of Aukland or Tauranga/ Can someone please recommend a tour that will take us to and from the port that won't exceed our stay from about 10 am to 5 pm.

I'm not sure what tour companies are operating in NZ since Covid but Google should find some, and there might be recommendations for those companies in the Ports of Call forum.

 

I recommend going to Hobbiton from Tauranga as it's only about an hour's travel from the cruise terminal whereas it's about two hours from Auckland and the Auckland motorway can clog up in the late afternoons.

 

The actual Hobbiton tour takes about 1.5 hours from memory.

Endorse Ozkiwi's reply that Tauranga is the port to tour from. Viator has a 6 hour tour listed for Hobbiton at A$161. Most companies will pick up at the wharf.

We used this company when we did the Hobbiton tour. They pick up from the cruise terminal and guarantee to return to the ship in plenty of time. This was before covid so not sure if anything has changed.

Yes. We did the tour to Hobbiton with Zealandier tours out of Tauranga.

Our family, a group of 9 had a great day with them.

We are a family of 7 and have booked a hire car at the port, and Hobbiton tickets directly through their website. Saved us $600 when compared with an organised tour!

Well done.  We drive ourselves in hire cars in NZ.  Love the tiny distances compared to Aust.
