Ncl joy 10 day cruise.

Activated the  150min internet on day 3.

No 'upsell to unlimited' popup.

It  activated like normal.

Will try activating 2 days after embarkation on  next 10day cruise

Next 10 day cruise is next month.

Hopefully i remember to take screenshots of the upgrade popup offer when i activate the promo 150min 2days after embarkation

<Breakaway>

I'm on my 14day cruise and trade in value for 300min is only $145, not $200. 😞

(See attached pic)

So doing the math:

13 x $25 is $325 - $145 is $180.

180/13 is $13.85/day.

Incedentally, for a 7 day cruise:

6 x $30 is $180 - $100 trade in is 80.

80/6 is $13.33/day.

So no per day savings for a longer cruise. 😞

A friend is taking a long cruise on Getaway (exact clone of Breakaway).
Only getting $145 credit for promo 300min for the upgrade to unlimited. 😞

Also, the upgrade price didnt get cheaper past the 2nd day after embarkation where as the other ships i mentioned in this thread got cheaper till there was 10 days left (14day cruise so 4 days after embarkation).

so for some reason the internet upgrade for breakaway/getaway is different

i believe the breakaway internet is now powered by starlink.
does the getaway have starlink?

i dunno… but NCL could be pricing the starlink product differently.

Looks like it was installed on getaway back in Aug but not turned on yet.

https://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/topic/2955799-starlink/

so that could explain the price difference.

also, viva will have starlink and i sail her next week.

i'll find out how much the trade in for promo min is

Yes. I was on it the past couple weeks, internet was Starlink.

I posted these in another thread, but these were the upgrade options on Day 2 of my 10-day and 13-day cruises  (B2B).

- Unlimited Internet pricing for 10day cruise: $30/day

day 2 would be 9 x 30 = $270 - $100 trade-in for promo 100min = $170

This is normal, like on all other ship.

- Unlimited Internet pricing for 13day cruise should be $25/day. you get a $5/day discount for long cruises.

But your day 2 is $330, which makes it $330/12 = $27.50/day

You only save $2.50/day on Getaway for long cruises.

This is even worse than Breakaway! 😮

(On my long Breakaway cruise last year it was $25/day, just like any other ship on a long cruise.)

So Breakaway class has a small internet pricing penalty if taking long cruises. 😞

Breakaway long cruise internet pricing last year:

I'm currently on the Viva (11day). It has Starlink, just like Breakaway/Getaway.

I just spoke to the internet mgr. Cheapest the unlimited upgrade gets is day 4 with 7 days left.

7 x $30 is $210 - $100 for the promo 150min, So $110 or $15.71/day at that point.

Dawn/Star 12+ day cruises can get down to $10/day with 10days left on the cruise with $200 trade in of the promo 300min.

Anyone know if Jewel (Gem, Jade, Pearl) class or Sun/sky ships also has this special for 12+ day cruises?

7days left and unlimited upgrade for $110  just like the internet person said.

Note:

On other ships  you get the upsell when you activate your promo minutes. I tried that but didn't get the popup.

When I logged off I got the upgrade pop-up.

That pop-up didn't appear the other times I logged off. (I was using my free casino 400min.)

It was only after I activated my promo 150 min that the upsell appeared.

It is now Mon 3am and I thought I was activating at the beginning of Day 4.

But apparently I could have  activated 15hrs sooner (7days 23hrs left) for the same $110. :classic_ohmy:

Ship embarked Thurs so it looks like the new internet period starts at 11am.

So yesterday (Sun, day3) at 11:01am would be 7days 23hrs59min left if you want to maximize :classic_tongue:

About to leave on the Prima next Friday. They are offering me an upgrade from my free 300 minutes in NCL account to the unlimited internet package at $204.86...for 14 days...$14.63 a day. Good deal or try and wait it out on the ship?

wait for 2 reasons:

1) upgrade while on ship uses obc (if any)

2) 13+ day cruises are usually $25/day upgrade (unlimited basic) instead of the normal $30/day.

Ask the internet mgr when's the last day it gets cheaper.

I'm on Viva 11 day and the last day it got cheaper was day 4 so 7 days left.

Since Prima is a sister ship it might have the same 4 days, so 10days left for you.

10 x $25 = 250 - $200 trade in = $50 upgrade ($5/day)

but if it's a starlink enabled ship then the trade in for 300min is only $145 (instead of $200) thus $250 - 145 = $105 ($10.50/day)

On the Viva 11n TA my 150min  package upgrade bottomed out at $79.xx forget which day, think that's with Sapphire discount.

You don't get a tier discount for upgrades to unlimited. it only applies to outright buying the unlimited package without trade in.

and i'm on the same Viva TA.

for me it was $210 - $100 = $110 for 7 days left ($15.71/day) . Internet mgr said day 4 was the last day prices will drop.

Apparently, he was wrong:
So for you it should be 6 days left on cruise: $180 - $100 = $80 ($13.33/day)

did you upgrade via the upsell screen on your phone or laptop?
Or had the internet mgr do it?

Did not bother to upgrade our 300 combined mins were lasting.

I like to go off line when on ships so stick with limited access. 3-5 mins at a time to downloads stuff like emails and get social updates.

Free CC works well enough if patient, I set up tabs of interest and let them download in their own time to read later.

I get $500 obc per cruise and 550internet min (150min promo, 400min casino) so i have $1000obc and 1100min if doing a b2b.

i still upgrade to unlimited because i enjoy convenience and most importantly, i have the obc to spend to enjoy my cruise

Even though i probably will never go through 1100min, i always find myself stressing if i remembered to logoff.

That overcomes the upside of limiting my time online and enjoying the ship. When i see minutes count down (even if it's 1100min), i don't waste time going down the google rabbit hole.
Like you, i used to log in, check email, news and social updates, then quickly log out if minutes are ticking.

but i found Wasting time surfing and not wandering around the ship is more enjoyable than being under the internet clock.

Newbie cruisers here with a bunch of questions. We will be on Viva for 9 day cruise out of San Juan in a month. For that duration of cruise, will the unlimited likely go down after the first two days? Also, I'm not sure I understand how it works with the "Free at Sea" and then the possible upgrade.

Is it by room number?

Is it by device?

(Can you switch between a phone and a computer or tablet, as long as only one is in use at a time?)

If one person upgrades, does it charge both people in the room the same upgrade for double the cost?

What is the unlimited service vs. the unlimited premium like? If you want to stream anything, do you have to get the premium?

Does the internet work the same whether you're in port or sailing between ports? (Trying to figure out if it's worth paying my $10/day international phone/data plan upgrade in lieu of buying the on board unlimited wifi.)

If you don't have unlimited wifi but are traveling with a big group staying in multiple rooms and want to stay in touch with each other on the ship ... ("hey, we're going to the pool at 5 p.m." or "meet us outside the theater on Deck X before the show") ... is there a way to communicate with people in the NCL app while on board?

Thanks in advance!!

Ncl sky:

Unlimited internet doesn't get cheaper on day two on four-day cruises.

On 10-day cruises it's gets cheaper till day 3 so 7 days left.

Ncl sky:

Unlimited internet doesn't get cheaper on day two on four-day cruises. So $60 ($15/day if embarkation day)

On 10-day cruises it's gets cheaper till day 3 so 7 days left.

7x30 is $210 - 100 is $110 ($15.71/day)

I will board my second NCL on Monday.  15 day Panama Canal….why do people say not to use any of your minutes for a day or 2 before upgrading?  (I get 300 minutes.)

thank you.

Convienence.

When you activate the 300min, you get the upgrade offer.

If you decline the upgrade, you have to wait on line at internet mgr to upgrade

The internet connections are allowed for one device at a time per registered (paid) user.

You can switch devices any time - yes, one at a time; log off from one, then log in on another.

The advance purchase option to upgrade shows the fee for both with no option to do only one. I'm not sure if it might be possible to do only one once onboard.

Streaming supposedly requires premium. It seems doubtful that you can with the basic service.

The ship's connection is the same everywhere; possibly by not being in motion it might help stabilize a bit. Experienced users on this board will know more.

I have seen posts discussing port-land connections as you have mentioned. Search the threads to find them. It is likely that you will have better service with your own service than the ship's. Overall, the internet experiences seems to be largely related to the system used on each ship. NCL is upgrading all ships to Starlink, which reports indicate is superior to their old link. I'm sailing on the Bliss in January, and someone posted a few days ago (having just been on the Bliss) that the service was terrible.

Person to person connectivity - I seem to remember some posts on this question but don't recall the specifics. I think there is something via the ship's wifi to allow this, without using the internet.
