Unlimited internet package: Trade in value for 300min?

Plans Options Plans Options - basically WAIT till you are on board and discuss these with

the Internet Cafe Manager or representative - have free promo minutes start your program

the 2nd day of the cruise - getting a one day discount and then reduced by your free time.

Realize that the Internet service is transmission by satellite signal - some of the cruises may

be just slightly out of the loop for reception result no internet or sporadic intermittent service.

The system is not 100% perfect.

For email users - you don't need all the bells buzzers whistles horns.

If you are not on one of the UNLIMITED plans remember to LOG-OFF to avoid using the

precious few limited free minutes remaining in your package.

I.E. 250 free minutes is 4 hours and 10 minutes of time - fail to LOG-OFF and poof it is gone

in a flash - the Internet Cafe Manager may be generous to reset your time - BUT - don't count

on it if you are the Forrest Gump type of "Internet for Dummies" user !

On the cheap frugal side - plan on using port land based free Wi-Fi sources where available

such as Starbucks Hortons Hotels other Coffee venues and public service Libraries etc.

While at SEA sporting events are not so much featuring USA sports - mostly European soccer.

While in the Internet Cafe - you can use NCLs internet free to access most anything booked

or reserved thru NCL - Shore Excursions for example.

Cell phones maybe the best sized instruments for general use - as opposed to Lap-Tops and

tablets - need a much larger screen - the Internet Cafe has monitors - you will need a program

to LOG-IN to use NCL equipment.

Now it comes down to how much you use the Internet and the cost of using it - On Board !

Plan your Plans and Options carefully to get the most out of your Dollar Pound Euro or

whatever floats your cruise boat !

I'm on my 14day cruise on Breakaway and trade in value for 300min is only $145, not $200. 😞 (See attached pic)

So doing the math:

13 x $25 is $325 - $145 is $180.

180/13 is $13.85/day.

Incedentally, for a 7 day cruise:

6 x $30 is $180 - $100 trade in is 80.

80/6 is $13.33/day.

So no savings per day for a longer cruise. 😞

Will be on Dawn 14day cruise in 2 weeks.

Person who said he got $200 trade in for his 300 promo internet min was on the spirit.
Lets see if the older ships give $200 trade-in or if it's just the Spirit.

my Trade in value ($200) for the 300promo minutes on NCL Star:

the Above $100 unlimited price was when there was 10days 6hrs left on the cruise.
Math: $30/day x 10 = $300 - $200 trade-in = $100

No additional discount with less than 10days left.

hopefully on breakaway long cruises, the '300promo minutes' trade in has been updated to $200?

So I'm doing a b2b: 12 day and 11 day

I traded in the 300 internet minutes for unlimited for $100 when there was 10days left of the cruise.

Leg2:

Theory- I should have 150 promo minutes because 11day, 400 casino minutes, and carrying 400 casino minutes from 1st leg.

Reality- I see 150 promo minutes, 400 casino minutes, and the 300 promo minutes(!) from last cruise that I sacrificed for unlimited.

I do not see the 400 casino minutes from last cruise.

No idea why I still have 300promo minutes.

Let's see if that 300 promo minutes can be traded in for $200 value.

And let's see how much the upgrade to unlimited is on day 2 and day 3. (10 and 9 days left)

10 days left on my 11 day cruise.

Yup, can trade in the 300min for $200 credit, just like I did on the 1st leg (12 day).

Going to use the 400 casino minutes and see if tomorrow (9 days left) the unlimited upgrade price gets reduced by$30.

Reduced another$30 with 9 days left! Now $70.

But no go with 8 days left.

Hit redeem for my 300 promo minutes like I did for 9 days left.

No upsell to unlimited screen.

It just redeemed, which is fine since I wasn't planning on  upgrading because I'm carrying over minutes from the 1st leg.

Now to see if you can go down to 9 days left on 12+ day cruises the next time I take one

interesting... 6 days left and i get this pop-up upsell for unlimited upgrade.

i've activated my 400 casino min first then 300 promo min 2 days later. (have not activated my 150 promo min yet.)

i have like 410 min left so technically, i have not used any of the 300 min.

it's sill the same price as if 9days left on cruise.

didnt go for it.

Not even with your "generous" non-refundable OBC from CAS ??  Haha, I did walk thru the Epic's huge photo center last month, and there're plenty of overpriced, expensive camera gears for "sale" ... have you check lately, just in case you have trouble "spending" down those OBC again ??

Best regards.

i actually bought one of those expensive cameras (with bundled accessories) on the prima a couple of weeks ago. i had OBC that had to be spent! the camera wasn't as overpriced as one might think. it was technically "duty free," but it wound up being almost exactly what i would have paid on amazon for the same items, with tax. so... it was not a "deal," by any means, but it wasn't a total ripoff.

and since i was using monopoly money that had no value after the cruise, i figured... why not?

3days left on 11 day cruise, my 150min internet auto activated.

Now I get this popup upsell for unlimited.

No more $200 off because 300min.

Now it's based on 150min. :(

So if you want $200 off upgrade to unlimited (best at 9days left), only activate the 300min

Activated the  150min internet on day 3.

No 'upsell to unlimited' popup.

It  activated like normal.

Will try activating 2 days after embarkation on  next 10day cruise

My husband and I each have 300 minutes of unlimited wifi on an upcoming Spirit cruise in March.  We usually get the best wifi available on any line we are on for his work.  Can I trade in these minutes for a credit towards a premium 1 device package?  Is it better to wait until onboard for a possible deal?

On board you can use 1 of the 300 minutes to get a credit towards a better package.

When we sailed on the Spirit last October in Alaska, it was very unreliable. Your milage may vary.

We are in the French Polynesian out of Australia so I have no idea.  Whatever signal he can get will have to work.

So it's only onboard?  You can't upgrade prior with exchanging the 300 minutes towards the best wifi?

That's correct.  You can upgrade online but there is no value to your minutes then

Sure you can. If you go into your vacation planner you should see options to upgrade to unlimited internet. As long as it says "upgrade" that means they are taking your existing minutes into account.

Upgrading from 300 minutes should cost $200 less than the normal cost of an unlimited package.

I can see that.  So that is the price with the 300 minutes or 600 in our case?  Sorry for the questions but although not new to cruising, this is my 2nd NCL cruise.

Edited:  I'm getting 2 different answers so I think I'm better off calling.  Thx for the input!

If you buy one package, it is associated with one person, so you can only take that person's 300 minutes and get $200 off the upgrade. You cannot combine 2 people's minutes (600 minutes total) to claim $400 off a single package upgrade.

But you should call them to be sure. Maybe they can do something that the website/app doesn't allow. (If so, please report back here!)

I did call.  They will not use the 300 minutes as a credit for a 1 device package.  So we are going to wait until on our sailing or cyber Monday sales to at least get one 1 device package and the other person uses the 300 x 2 minutes.

I have an upgrade to unlimited wi-fi offer of $109 for a 10 day cruise and $214 for a 12 day cruise. I can't seem to make sense of it.

unlimited basic at $11/day extra is worth it if the promo 150min isn't enough.

from my posts above, you can wait and it'll drop to $10/day but paying $11/day is worth it to not keep checking for the upgrade special to pop up
