If the cruise is 12+ days, you get 300min/person from the promo.

Anyone know how much is the trade in value towards the unlimited package?

$200. On Spirit right now. Still cost me $500 more. It's $21 a day for 2 devices per device.

Thx!

Interesting trade in pricing:

75 min (4-6 day cruises) is $60.

150 min is $100.

250 min (old promo plan) was  $125.

300 min is $200

For you, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the unlimited plan outright with Platinum discount instead trading in the  promo minutes?

Wait..

If you upgraded on day2, then it's 11days.

(11 x $30) - $200 trade in value 300 min is $130.

How did you get 179?

Day 2?

Our cruise is not until January. My wife and I both got 250 minutes for "Free" I paid for the upgrade last week, it was actual $174 unlimited

We're on an upcoming 19-day cruise. The upsell charge to go from 500 free minutes to unlimited was $274. However, it was only applicable for one person in the cabin. If the 2nd person wanted unlimited, they had to pay the full $399 price. However, we're hoping we can still use the "2nd person's" original 500-minute perk on our third device, as we will actually have one iPhone (we carry around the ship) and 2 iPads we leave in the cabin safe when we're out and about.

Wait till your on board.  We encountered the same thing but internet manager will manually do it.  What they are doing is not adding a second person, but using the price of a single 2 devices plan.

Do not!!! Use any of your minutes before seeing internet manager.

@fstuff1 - hi, there again ... looks like you are enjoying life at sea & cashing in those comp'd casino offers, enjoy.  Since, looked like, you are onboard the Prima now, maybe check with the iCafe manager on duty about the current internet package rates for cruises of longer duration - as I recall when we're doing 14 days on the Escape 3 years ago, NCL does "discount" or lower the daily rates on cruises of 10+ days and longer (could've been 11 days or longer)  - the per day rate was lower than $30 then, might've been $25 p/d and/or lower, being spinning off these 2 devices and 3 devices plan, basic & streaming, and social media only bundles, etc. etc.

To refresh memories, it was 250 free minutes for a typical 7 nighter and not split or halfed for solo cruising ... old days !

@MissRabbit - trade-in/up options have been valid & done only from the limited airtime minutes/MB data as offered to the unlimited plan(s) - AFAIK, thru the years, has not been permitted to do a no-cost or free exchange to the social media plan ... and, even those, weren't exactly bargain deals by itself.  Of cours, if the onboard iCafe manager made a special deal, it was hush hush and not "wise" to post or share on an open forum like CC, as their status can be at risk for bending the rules.   If you are wondering & thinking about it, wait until you are onboard & speak nicely to the manager on duty face-to-face, worst outcome is a "no" or "not permitted" response.  Good luck !

Talked with the Prima internet mgr.

You are correct, there's a $5/day discount  but for 13+ days for the unlimited package.

So $25/day for the regular unlimited wifi and $35/day for unlimited premium.

12+ day cruises get 300min promo.

From this thread, trade in value is $200.

So for common 14day cruises and upgrading on day 2: (13 x $25) - $200 is $125.

He didn't mention the social media package. (Normally $15/day)

For our upcoming cruise we both have the 300 minutes.  I upgraded one to unlimited thru their upgrade offer.  $336 regular price for 16 days.  Upgrade price was for just shy of$255.  A difference of $81 or $5 a day.  So in our case it would have been worth $162 if we both gave up our 300 minutes for the upgrade.   This is a prepaid upgrade offer on my NCL account. It ends up being about $16 a day for unlimited use for duration of cruise.

My math is different?

16x$25 is $400.

Trade in for 300 min is $200.

So 16day upgrade to unlimited should be $200.

$200/16 is $12.50 per day

Just posting our current experience(we sail in 17 days).  I only know what I paid for one upgrade to unlimited via their offer on our account.  We had option to upgrade one or two.  I got the upgrade as an anniversary gift for my partner of 25 years.  I like to unplug and will be fine with my 300 minutes.

So for our current sailing of 16 days they want $336 for unlimited for the duration.  Upgrade price was 254 and some odd change.  Difference $81.  So in the question you posted, how much is the trade-in value toward unlimited?  In our case it is only $81.  Should you wait until you board( or second day as some suggest) your savings or trade-in amount may be different.

I was only giving you an honest answer to your question.  Hope it has been helpful.  🙂

  • 3 weeks later...

I have the 150 minutes free at sea promo for a 10 day cruise coming up later this month. Right now NCL offers me to upgrade to unlimited (non streaming) for $199.90. It seems the consensus is you can get a better offer by waiting until day 2. Anyone have any idea if that's still true for a 10 day itinerary?

I see most are commenting on upgrading from a 12+ day cruise, which gives you 300 minutes as credit against the upgrade, so maybe it's different for me at only 150 mins

I pay $0.  Being unplugged is one of the great things about being on a cruise.  No one really "NEEDS" to be on the internet for hours on a cruise.  Heck I have my own business but I have people who can run things for a week without me being tapped into work.  We get the FAS minutes and all four of us our Sapphire latitude minutes.  We most often use way less than half of that time for quick mindless browsing at the end of the day such as checking sports scores etc.  We only do that because it is free.

That may work for you. Some of us are retired, take much longer cruises and are not worried about a few hundred dollars.

As far as "Needing", we absolutely do.

We have elderly parents who keep ending up in the hospital. We are in charge of all their financials and many aspects of their lives now.

We need internet on 24/7 because the wifi calling option.

Using the minutes would not work.

I'm on my 14day cruise and trade in value for 300min is only $145, not $200. 😞

(See attached pic)

So doing the math:

13 x $25 is $325 - $145 is $180.

180/13 is $13.85/day.

Incedentally, for a 7 day cruise:

6 x $30 is $180 - $100 trade in is 80.

80/6 is $13.33/day.

So no savings for a longer cruise. 😞
