ChiefMateJRK Posted December 19, 2022 #77 Share Posted December 19, 2022 I just checked our last seven day AK cruise. We paid no attention to when we were paying taxes in port for drinks. Between DW and I, we racked up a measly $30 in taxes. That doesn't really take much of a bite out of that $100. I think we'll purposely NOT book one or two common excursions just to have something to use the OBC on. Things like the all day Juneau tram that is free for one person and ~$45 for the other. I'm guessing that if I "splurge" on Bulleit and Crown, I can whittle a few more bucks a day off of the balance.

dbrown84 Posted December 20, 2022 #79 Share Posted December 20, 2022 ahh, sad to see it can't actually be used for CN certs. That would have been a perfect use. I think I'll use the OBC, coupled with the $50 shore excursion credit, and book a couple of excursions. Maybe if we actually make it to GSC I'll do the wave runner and zip line

Oh well........we already get free specialty dining. Maybe pictures? I guess we will start drinking, haha.
Rare luv2kroooz Posted December 20, 2022 #81 Share Posted December 20, 2022 It is becoming harder and harder to spend the shareholder OBC on Norwegian. We used to buy cruisenext with ours, too. Oh well. Carnival corporation brands allow you total flexibility to use SH credits on specialty dining gratuities, daily gratuities, casino, etc. Which can result in true savings off the overall cash outlay on the vacation. On Norwegian, we have to spend it on things we rarely need like overpriced shore tours, specialty dining and spa services.

That's how one can SPEND $1,000 of refundable OBC, but the OBC for buying CND's effectively offsets half the cost of them, not resulting in OBC to spend in another manner... Level six Posted December 20, 2022 #86 Share Posted December 20, 2022 I give up. I was just trying to help giving the suggestion of buying CN with shareholder benefit. It's has been said it is not even possible anymore to use shareholders benefit to buy it, so what's the big deal? Do whatever you want. I never said I had $1000 of OBC, just $1000 of CN, read the post. Why does every single post by anyone have to be dissected? I know what I have, I know what I paid for it (nothing) so don't worry about it. Do what is best for you. Cheers.

Aren't you charged $2000 and then given a $1000 OBC which offsets half the cost? I haven't done this, but this is what I believe I've read here. But yes, you're right, your onboard account is charged $2000 then you're given $1000 OBC, thus the net cost is $1000

Using more than two discounts or vouchers must require a manual override then. When I was booking my next cruise (did it myself online) it only let me apply two items from my available 'credits', either two CND's or one CND and the 10% discount. Once two items were applied the rest were unavailable to select. I remember when I had a lot of different FCCs from cancelled bookings, I always had to call if I wanted to apply more that 2 to a sailing. Sometimes I would get an error message but usually, applying the third would knock one of the previous credits off of the payment.

I was provided 2 options. 1) To get OBC for that cruise OR 2) get $1000 more in certificates. I opted for the certificates. Good thing I did bcuz I thought I would be smart and cash out in the casino. But joke was on me. The day before disembarking the casino was closed the whole day. As we were to close from Mexico to LA to have the casino open. So hubby got a new Go Pro at the 11th hour.... 🙂

Well if your credit card is charged $2000 that would mean you had 16 certs. I don't know if they would even let you buy that many. I said your onboard account is charged $2000, not your credit card. Once you subtract the $1000 OBC, your credit card would only be charged $1000

You "pay" $1000 for 4 certificates - they will either give you back $500 in obc ( which offsets the cost) or another 4 certificates. In either case, your account is charged $1000. There is no obc to redeem, it's an offset to the money charged to your account. And nr obc can't be claimed in the casino. If you took the certificates, you definitely wouldn't have had any obc. Sounds like you bought that go pro with your money, not NCLs. Unless I'm missing something.

Option 1 is get 50% off the cost. Option 2 is get double what you pay for. It is the same thing.
