Carry on luggage question

Sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if there is a carry on luggage size limit? I know there is a security scanner similar to the airport before you board the ship that my wifes suitcase absolutely wont fit through, but in the waiting area, i saw similar sized suitcases so im wondering how they go them through security?

American Airlines:

Under the seat bag dimensions should not exceed 18 x 14 x 8 inches (45 x 35 x 20 cm).
Carry-on dimensions should not exceed 22 x 14 x 9 inches / 56 x 36 x 23 centimeters (including handles and wheels)

 

I won't slow my boarding by pressing the issue at security in the cruise ship terminal.

Similar but not exactly. Doesn't matter. All carry on luggage has to go thru the terminal security luggage scanner check point.

Are you certain that they did?  We have seen people with oversized suitcases sent back to the curb area to have them taken by porters

Check in size luggage will fit in the terminal xray machine, done it many times when arriving to the terminal after the porter shifts are over.

 

If you're looking for specific dimensions you should contact the terminal as I don't believe X would have that specific info anywhere

Might depend on the terminal.  Rules for Sydney might not apply in San Juan

There's no formal limit on carry-on size, just whatever can fit in the scanner in the terminal.  Those scanners, in my experience, will hold larger items than the ones in airports.

Always carry my own onto the ship - standard 22" bags are no problem and perhaps even a 24" would fit as well.
