Join The Bird for another cruise on NCL’s newest and first-in-class Norwegian Prima. This time, The Bird is on a 7-night cruise to the Western Caribbean out of Miami. The Norwegian Prima is the first of six Prima Class ships delivering from 2022 to 2027. The Fincantieri shipyard, near Venice, Italy, began construction of the Prima on December 9, 2019. NCL took delivery of this next-generation ship on July 29, 2022 and godmother Katy Perry christened the ship on August 27, 2022 in Reykjavík, Iceland. This is the Prima’s last cruise from PortMiami sailing to Western Caribbean. She repositions to Port Canaveral for the remainder of her Western Caribbean season. In March 2023 the Prima begins a Bermuda season from New York. And in May 2023, she returns to Southampton and Reykjavik. The Prima has a double occupancy capacity of 3100 guests and 1506 crew members. NCL boasts that the Prima has up to 36% more space per guest compared to other contemporary cruise lines, the most outdoor deck space of any new ship, the most spacious accommodations for a new cruise ship, and 47% more staff per guest compared to other contemporary cruise lines (one crew member for every two passengers). The ship has 1646 guest staterooms including 107 suites, 1030 balcony, 124 ocean view, and 385 inside staterooms, along with 912 crew cabins. Come along with The Bird on a cruise to the Western Caribbean on the revolutionary Norwegian Prima! Rare BirdTravels Posted December 3, 2022 Author #9 Share Posted December 3, 2022 Designed by Miami-based Bermello, Ajamil & Partners, the Pearl of Miami is NCL’s purpose-built terminal to handle their largest ships. It was inspired by the Fibonacci Nautilus and cost an estimated $240M.
Mandalay5 Posted December 3, 2022 #10 Share Posted December 3, 2022 Thank you, Bird! We’re boarding Prima on the 11th, and I’ll look forward to your review to pull me through the next week!
Rare BirdTravels Posted December 3, 2022 Author #11 Share Posted December 3, 2022 (edited) Outside, Haven guests get priority access and a private security screening and check in area. And a private waiting area above the folks in steerage. You can also pick up your scooter right inside the doors of the terminal. Rare BirdTravels Posted December 3, 2022 Author #12 Share Posted December 3, 2022 Using modern screening equipment designed to speed bag screening, security check was a breeze. At check in, you just need to find the right line to stand in.

We're sailing on the Prima this summer in Europe. Looking forward to your review.
Sand and Seas Posted December 3, 2022 #15 Share Posted December 3, 2022 Looking forward to another BirdTravels review😊 We love that you are already going back on Prima! Your first review helped us prepare for our recent Prima cruise. (Working on our next Prima booking now.) We disembarked at the new terminal (from Galveston to Miami) but have yet to embark there. Thanks for the great pictures of check in area. Love that they have different lines for Platinum and up plus CAS. But, what in the world is 'My Time' check in 🤔
Wedgie Wedgie Posted December 3, 2022 #16 Share Posted December 3, 2022 Bird is the Word! Hey Bird, we hop on next Sun too. Please leave some booze. One favor: Can you please give some detail shots of the pickleball court. I've seen video quick walk bys but nobody actually stepping up to or inside the court and showing the ceiling height and how much space is on the sidelines. It looks like a cage match Thunderdome! TIA!
cb2367 Posted December 3, 2022 #17 Share Posted December 3, 2022 @BirdTravelsHave a fun trip. Just off Prima today. Didn't get to every place on the ship, but navigating around was tricky for the first day or two. As for check-in, my opinion was that it could have been better. The last cruise I went on, I came to the port and got a group number. It was all organized. There seemed to be a lot of general boarding and not so much checking the group numbers this time around. Rare BirdTravels Posted December 3, 2022 Author #24 Share Posted December 3, 2022 You’re on a vacation and probably want some mommy and daddy time. Register the kiddos at the Splash Academy (3-12) and Entourage (13-17). Take the kiddos on the first night and you won’t see them again until disembarkation. One change in the Splash Academy program is that kids need to be potty trained. No diapers or pull ups. NCL did not plan on a dedicated Entourage facility on Prima class ships. So, the teens have a space in the splash Academy and take over other venues for activities.
