Arvia naming

Totally bizarre imho. Bring a ship into service in December but don't name it until March.... Mind you, I don't suppose that will even register with the 'new to cruise' market P&O are aiming these ships at.

I am surprised anyone is upset about the naming, the ship was built in Germany and will spend most of the time abroad, and will be registered abroad and is American owned.

Arvia will spend April to October sailing from Southampton and I believe she will be registered there as well.

But I agree that a naming ceremony in Barbados does not worry me at all, neither the fact that she will cruise with passengers ahead of the naming ceremony.

The old naming ceremony just prior to the ship being launched down the shipyard slipway, is no longer really relevant to a vessel built in the modern pre-fabricated way. It's now just a handy bit of publicity for the cruise line.
