Adding/Removing names from a reservation?

Hi there… I’m considering allowing my son to bring a friend on a future 2024 cruise, but as they are all young, new to job market, I’m aware things sometimes come up.  Is it ever possible to add or remove a person from a reservation, in case his friend for some reason can’t come?  If his friend couldn’t come, could he add a different person?   Just wondering how that works.

The policy varies by cruise line, and may generate a fee, but yes, you can change  a person on a reservation a reasonable time in advance. Don't try it the last couple days before sailing.

the closer to the sailing you do this  it may be more  difficult to add people  unless you have a spot reserved already

if you book a cabin with 4  it usually can change a pax  for  a fee

if you book a cabin for 3  then it may not be possible

they have to have space in the lifeboats  & that is capacity controlled

As you say, lifeboat capacity constraints can prohibit adding another person to your cabin. But the max capacity of your cabin is generally not a factor regarding the lifeboat capacity restriction.

 

But for clarification - when you are not adding a passenger, but merely replacing an existing passenger booking with a different person, lifeboat capacity and cabin max have no effect.

The OP did not clarify whether the friend would be booked  & then change the name  if the friend does not go  or if  the friend decided to join later in the process
