6rugrats Posted January 11, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2023 (edited) The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) system that sends out real-time flight hazards and restrictions to all commercial airline pilots - Notice to Air Missions(NOTAM) is currently suffering a nationwide outage. The FAA has ordered all airlines to pause domestic departures until 9:00 a.m. More than 1,200 flights within, into and out of the U.S. were delayed as of around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. Just over 100 flights were listed as cancelled. United Airlines said it has temporarily delayed all domestic flights. American Airlines said in a statement it is "closely monitoring the situation, which impacts all airlines, and working with the FAA to minimize disruption to our operation and customers." CruiserBruce Posted January 11, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2023 The pause is, at this point in time, to 9am Eastern Time. Kind of an important additional piece of info.

Z'Loth Posted January 11, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 11, 2023 I feel sorry for those flying Southwest. It may not be the same passengers but it doesn't help that airline's situation. This also emphasizes the need to fly in one day BEFORE the cruise instead of day-of minimum.

This ground stop applies to ALL airlines. Unless the goal is to just be piling on.
6rugrats Posted January 11, 2023 Author #7 Share Posted January 11, 2023 I feel sorry for airline employees who are going to be on the receiving end of passenger abuse today.

I think the point they were going for was that there may be people who got caught up in the WN debacle who may be traveling today instead, and then got caught up on the FAA debacle. Just bad luck on those people's parts.

Because it's two major incidents that affected Southwest airlines. One, as we painfully know, directly affected Southwest airlines because of internal computer issues, the other indirectly because of computer issues at the FAA because of a "damaged database file."
