Mooring Dolphin...not to be confused with a mooring Camel...which we used with much larger ships such as an aircraft carrier...and submarines.

But dolphins, being intelligent and inquisitive creatures, will help the Captain moor the ship.  Camels are more likely to spit in his eye.  🤣

LOL...yes...mooring camels were neither graceful or pretty.  In fact most were quite banged-up!

Looks like the US Navy has some shiny new camels. Probably made from composite. In a way they're really just fancy fenders, but needed because of the shape of a submarine hull and the various external structures they might have below the waterline at the dock.  (photo is a screenshot from google maps at Subbase New London)
