We are taking a transatlantic cruise to Rome. We then want to go right from the cruiseport to the train station and take the high speed train to Venice for a couple days. does anyone know how far the station is from there? Has anyone does this before and have any tips?

thanks

I'm not 100% certain which train station/cities you are specifically asking about.

But, your "Rome" cruise actually ends in Civitavecchia which is about 60-90 minutes from the primary Rome train station.  Trains to Venice begin in the Rome train station (Termini Train Station).  So you first need to figure out your plan on getting from the ship to that train station.  That could be via train, private arranged transfer service, or other means.  There is a train station in Civitavecchia, but not direct trains to Venice from there.  Getting to the Civitavecchia train station generally involves riding a shuttle bus from the port and is either free or cost a few euros depending on the shuttles in service at the time.

You can take a train from Civitavecchia to Termini and then catch the train to Venice.  You can look at available timing and train selection at the Italian train line website trenitalia.com.

If you were asking about distances in Venice, the main station in Venice is Venezia S. Lucia.  It is located in the western side of Venice proper, and depending on your hotel location it could be a short distance on foot or a longer distance on a water taxi or water boat.

Can you elaborate more on what your hoping to do?

Ok...you will get off the ship in Civitavecchia. You will need to train to Rome Termini, where the high speed train starts. We have taken both trains, although not on the same run.

Getting to the train station in Civi is discussed here frequently...either a taxi or two buses are required. Once in the train station, you just need to get the right train and connect in Rome.

I would suggest using trenitalia.com to do your planning.

Trenitalia is the only operator on the Civitavecchia to Rome segment of your trip, but for Rome to Venice check both Trenitalia and Italotreno.  They offer comparable service but one may have better timing and/or price for your trip than the other.

We are in the same boat so to speak we are hopefully on a cruise this summer out of Barcelona to Rome and after have a few days in Venice and then a few days in Rome before flying home. We will self disembark but have no clue how long it will take us to get off the ship to get to the Civi train station and then the train from there to Rome Termini to get the Venice train.
