On odyssey now. Some observations

We are on now and we were not very impressed with the cruise. One thing I can say is that the cruise staff are very friendly but I think management is pressuring them to get feedback from customers. A few times while dining in windjammer, a staff member came to our table to rate the staff, food, overall experience. This is not something I thing you should answer face to face. I felt bad for staff members asking this. They looked very uncomfortable.

When we were on Odyssey last month, the MDR became a dance club for about 15 minutes every evening after the halfway point of the cruise. They had announcements, pleas for 10's, applauses for every department, pleas for 10's, festive dancing music, pleas for 10, a waiter from Izumi stopped by to sing a love ballad, pleas for 10s, and a final message of thanks and appreciation...oh and they asked for 10's.

Here's the mind blowing part! My prime rib was only too salty on one side!!!

(this is a trolling joke)

Hahahaha yep and on the survey after the cruise, they have the gall to ask " Did anyone ask you to give them a 10"?

I have a personal very important  quick question. I read that there is a smoking area on deck 5 starboard aft. We have a GTY OV balcony for our April Transatlantic cruise and looks like we have been given a cabin directly above where this area is on the deck plans. My  issue is that I have a very severe lung disease and allergy to cigarette smoke and if that is a smoking area on a 14 day TA we would never be able to even open our balcony door.  Would you mind verifying this for me? If this is accurate I may get a letter from my doctor and try and get our GTY cabin moved away from this area.

Thanks,

Virginia Lea

RCI won't care about some doc note - if you want to move to anything other than the same exact category, you'll probably have to pay. No one can tell you how many, if any, smokers will be out there and if any of that smoke will ever get to your cabin (very unlikely).

I am not on board, but per the app here are the current smoking areas for Odyssey

“Smoking is permitted in the following areas:

    •    Casino, Deck 3. Smoking is allowed in Casino Royale only while actively playing in designated areas.
    •    Outer deck, Deck 5 (port side)
    •    Outer deck, Deck 14 (port side)
Indoor smoking areas permit tobacco cigarettes and electronic cigarettes.”

I have read that some Quantum class ships have the smoking area on 5 starboard, the app says it is 5 port side on Odyssey.

If you cannot be totally flexible about cabin location, you should not book a gty, but perhaps you lucked out this time.

Just ask for another cabin. If in the same category they should get you another location in the same category. I have done it many times.

That's my plan  Thank you.  I don't mind the category, I knew I would likely get the obstructed cabin with a GTY, I just had no idea there was smoking on lower decks. I am use to it only being on the upper pool deck and the casino and can easily avoid those areas.

Caution is advised as it is more common than you seem to think.  They’re are smoking areas on the promenade decks of multiple Royal Caribbean ships. People who are careful to avoid smoke learn not book lower balconies that side those ships; booking a balcony gty on those ships runs the same risk.

That is easier said than done right now.  I’m on a b2b on Odyssey next month and booked balcony gty for both legs.  Using the barcode trick we could foresee our future assignments (different categories on the two cruises); there are no available cabins in those categories on either cruise. So odds of switching to a better cabin in our category is quite low.  We are flexible, so our cabins will be fine.  The same may be true for obstructed cabin categories for the TA.

As I've said our December cruise on Odyssey was fantastic, I had no complaints whatsoever...but then.....

And my cruise the beginning of February was also fantastic. I really want to get back aboard Odyssey.

Then there is royal which royally rips you off and then has the cheek to not even get the basics right and then expect you pay their staffs wages in 18% tips for zero service.

Zero service? I've done than than a few cruises on RCI. I've been quite happy with the service.

I did not. I am still rehabbing a right shoulder injury from last summer. I didn't want to risk it. I couldn't do the rock wall either.

... One told us this is an American cruise ...

Everyone here does know this is blatantly false, right?

Good answer.

I despise cigarette smoke.  I'd call and ask for a different room.

Zero service?  So you had no sheets and towels in your room?  Your trash was never emptied?  You didn't eat during the whole cruise?  No one believes that.

I'm with Ocean Boy:  I've always been quite happy with the service.

Hopefully your TP doesn't plug up the pipes. Single ply is for marine toilets.

I was going to say this.  I'm surprised so many people say they do this.
