Most, (not all) of the TOP YouTuber's have become nothing more but click bait headlines and useless self gratifying content.

When you have a few hundred thousand subscribers, in my opinion their focus tends to lean towards $$ and self-gratification.

Influencer sounds better than self gratifier doesn’t it?  🙂

Valid, yet this is their livelihood as many quit their regular jobs a long time ago; the more clicks the more money you make...Some like Tony and Chris Wong even posts videos of how much money they make

The best videos are shot very early in the morning when people aren't around. I would suggest that to any influencer who is intrusive.

Influencers are going to influence even if they're intrusive; while some thing you can't avoid such as showing the buffet at meal time, I would like to see show crowded venues get

FYI:  Most cruise-related videos are "Content Creators"

"Influencers" generally get paid to promote a product or service

The issue I think I have with all this is the term influencer. The people I mentioned after the Celebrity cruises search above, provide helpful and informative content that helps the cruising public make better decisions and maybe learn how to pack better. Yes they do it for clicks and to make some money, but at the same time they provide a service.

What I think of as influencers are the people trying to continually try and get the viral videos and the most clicks and likes by posting videos that are wastes of time for me to watch and don't provide any benefit other than maybe making you laugh. Those posters might be more likely to be more obnoxious and to not care how they impact others peoples experiences. Right now I have gone down the every day carry rabbit hole on you tube and there is a ton of helpful information there to help me make smart purchasing decisions along with the cruise videos I watch, so there is a good side to this.

If you've never been on the celebrity edge and want to see a ship tour you simply enter that into the search box...Odds are you'll get exactly what you want without nonsense...If one watches daily "cruise news" videos, often than yes, they CAN be very clickbait-ish nonsense

I actually appreciate it when some videos are shot during peak times. I want to see how things are when it gets busy on board and not when everyone is sound asleep at 6:30 am.

Quite frankly there are ~ 3000 people on board, and it's my expectation that pretty much everyone has a camera or cellphone camera these days so I have no reasonable expectation of privacy. As long as someone doesn't film up my bathrobe (not that anybody would want to) I don't give a flying woop.

There are YT videos about every topic and hobby on hand. Cruise Travel, Hotels, Casinos, Flights etc and as long as someone goes through the process of paying for a cruise, shooting a video and even editing it that's not the same kind of "influencer" who posts a few obnoxious shorts on Instagram or TikTok.

Here are YouTube previews from six of Gary's own Top Vloggers page.

I'll let you be the judge what constitutes click bait and what videos may be helpful.

For many content creators/influencers, this is their job, to put up videos.  You as a viewer has the choice to click on them or not...There's nearly a billion YT videos out there, 99.999999999999999% of them I'm personally not interested in

YouTubers like these are trying to make money.  They are running a business and the goal of most businesses is to make money.  As long as headlines like this get people to watch their videos, they will keep doing it.  I don't see how this is any different than the marketing decisions made by companies around the world every day.  To me, it says more about our population than it does about any one YouTuber.

I missed the part where you explained why their livelihood is my problem? 😂

Not only choice as to whether to view or not we can say don't recommend a channel on YouTube. There is also a not interested option. Not interested means the one video will disappear from recommended videos while not recommend means that channel won't get recommended.

To piggyback, for many, this is primary source of income, they do not have a typical full time job

Very true; if one repeatedly clicks on a “clickbait” type video, high odds YouTube will start recommending them

The ones that do it well, it is a pretty good source of income to cruise a lot and report back on it on you tube and other social media. There are worse jobs in life than that.

Well I guess even the ones that don't do it well, but get clicks get to cruise a lot more than I do too.

In some countries that they dock at in Europe if you use someone's photo or video especially without consent / for commercial reasons they'll be in a lot of trouble.

I see broadcasts from European locations all the time with people in the background.  What European countries require the consent you are talking about?

I absolutely hate them!  Sat next to one at dinner one night (and the tables are on top of each other) and they had to film each other eating dinner and giving their opinion the entire time.  It was so rude of them.  Its much more than just two people having dinner conversation.

You should have started recording them and told them you needed the footage for your cruise ship manners vlog.  😀

If you can’t beat “em, join ‘em, “Zitsky’s random travels”

Topics for the first video:

1) Why am I not upgraded to a suite when I paid for Aqua?

2) Which vintage of the Celebrity sparkling wine is the best?

3) Which cabin has the best tap water?  Port or starboard?

you need to have more fun with it, bring a microphone, post up in a crowded place, when someone walks by, stick the mic in their face and ask “do you find influencers onboard annoying?”

Thanks, but I didn’t mention that because that’s, like, so obvious.  🙄

I’ll do it right after my video interviews at the Cruise Critic party.  You can apply to be interviewed.  Maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones.

Then they should get one.

The only thing I hate more than “influencer” is “literally” and “at the end of the day”.

Now get off my lawn!!  🤪

It’s really the opposite, you have a full time job, get a channel, it blows up and you’re too busy for your regular job

aw but Chris has a job on the ship; and Tonys wife provides a service I can not mention here.  So does Don and a few others.

I understand the click bait is something You tube encourages them to do.  Some are just not as good at it and then those facial expressions OMG
